I bought a 2016 Tundra and it came with a plastic bed liner sitting on top of a carpet bed liner; previous owner was clearly an advocate for double protection. I saw that carpet bed liner and immediately thought that must be a breeding ground for rust in the future. It must act like a sponge for rain water? Then I got to reading on the material of the bed and it is sheet-molded composite material. That doesn't tell me much. Is it corrosion proof or not?

It's not so much the inside of the bed you have to worry about as it is the bracing and supports underneath it.

Composite beds came later on the 3rd gen in 2022.

    2016 has steel bed.
    As such it can rust.

My 2015 60k miles rotted behind wheel wells in the bed and the brace underneath had to be all cut out and replaced… know issue with these trucks
