I thought the numbers were kinda crazy.
102,000!! 13 to 21 hours each. $500M
Kinda cool that they are using it to train new techs also

 

If I become one of the peeps that is involved in the recall I'd let the dealership do a few before dropping mine off. That way the experienced tech has it down and the new tech isn't on his own to do it himself.

 

If they are going to do it by appointment, then I am waiting a good while. It would be a great opportunity if you were a young mechanic to learn, that’s for sure.

 

I'm actually pretty impressed how this is all being handled. I don't know of any company that would be prepared to replace this amount of engines and do it right.

 

What about driving a perfectly good engine until it konks out? Could be tomorrow, could be 5 years from now. Will Toyota still replace the engine then or is there some kind of time limit? I feel pretty good sitting on a brand new engine (essentially vehicle) for free when I need it.

 

They honored a paint recall for my great grandmas Corolla when the car was 13 years old. They also denied my dad a switch replacement that should've been covered by a platinum VSA, so ya never really know, I'd get it ASAP and not take my chances of being told to pound sand.

Since this is an NHTSA mandated safety recall, I am going to bet that they will not let you wait for too long...

 

A service campaign can have an expiration date , a safety recall can not .
