Hey guys, I have 2011 Rock warrior and just found out my rear main oil seal is leaking. I was wondering how common this is? I used to own a T-100 had almost 300k with no engine problems like this…..very disappointed with the Tundra.

Rear mains will leak at some point. You didn’t say how many miles are on your truck. It’s a piece of rubber, it ages, it wears out. Pretty sure mine is leaking on my 2000 2UZ with 275k miles. It’s pretty mild, so just running high mileage oil to help keep it conditioned. May never fix it, if I have a reason to drop the trans or pull the motor (unlikely) I’ll address it then.

Probably dried out from sitting without use for extended periods.

That’s almost 50% of your annual mileage. That was kind of my point - if you’d only put 3-4k miles on it through the year until then - that’s a lot of sitting.

People on here tend to favor trucks driven 10k miles / year over one that’s was driven 2k miles / year because rubber dry rots.

If it doesn't drip off the vehicle, it's minor in nature for me. Also, likely the extended periods at cruising speed that exacerbated what is probably a minor leak. Aside from labor to have it done, it's a $15 or so fix. If I were quoted $2500 to fix it, I would evaluate strongly whether it need to be fixed at this point or not. I would look into alternatives to slow the bleed so to speak (not snake oil, legit seal conditioners). I had a 1984 S-10 with the 2.8 V6 that had a really bad real main seal leak. Didn't leak driving around town at lower engine loads, but blew oil like crazy on the highway to the tune of 4qts per tank of gas. I ran 20w50 and some stop leak and it stopped leaking all together on that highway trip. I ran 5W30 in my 5.7 and would probably be on high mileage oil at your mileage. Both would slow the leak.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! As others have alluded to, with a truck that old, an oil leak that minor is not unexpected, and if you're losing less than a quart between oil changes, I would not worry about it at all.
