Preventive maintenance

I bought a new Toyota Tundra, double cab, with long bed in December 2008. The only things I have ever added to it are running boards and a fiberglass bed cover. It has been an absolutely amazing truck. I have changed the oil and filter every 5000 miles, changed the air filters when needed, replaced tires and brake pads, and I had to replace the battery once. The truck only has 104,000 miles. It has been a perfect machine. Now that I have passed 100,000 miles, I know I should get some preventive maintenance done but when I check online for what's recommended, I get woozy. Dang! I could never afford to do all of that. What steps should I absolutely take now that I have reached this first big milestone to keep everything running well? Thank you for your help!

Instead of checking "online", check the owners manual, and do a little at a time. Because of your good maintenance practices, you've had excellent service from your truck, keep it going!

 

Clean maf and throttle body cheap and easy
All fluids ps, brake, coolant, diffs, and a drain and fill on the tranny. A little spendy but all are overdue
spark plugs probably least important unless your having ignition problems

Change out the PCV if you have not already. Is it the 5.7l?

Transmission fluid drain and fill sometimes between now and 120k.

Front/rear differentials and transfer case between now and 120k

Grease the drive shaft u-joints.

 

Are the PCV valves a known issue? Or is it just good practice to change them out?

 

Nope. Just like everything, it will eventually break.

Most cases it is very easy to replace and cheap preventative maintenance. I replaced mine with an OEM for $25. I've seen other comments as low as $12.

 

Spendy? Yes! Not doing PM can be even more spendy though. Think carefully!
