I have a 21 tundra with 35k miles and will need new tires before this spring. I drive 3hrs to the beach, and 4.5hrs to hunting camp often several times a month. Top priority’s are highway use/cost, quiet/smooth/holds up and decent fuel mileage. I also want it to be just fine for around camp driving around our properties/wet trails, and the no winter maintenance roads. Is there a good tire for normal highway use that also does okay off-road and in snow? This double cab truck already does good off road (I am used to 8ft bed 3/4 ton work trucks). Asking too much and should just pick the highway tire? Brands?

Sailun terramax, I haven't had em in the mud yet but they are smooth, quiet, and I picked up a lil fuel economy in the process

If you kind of hurry, you can probably get the last of the Cooper Discoverer E rated tires.

Goodyear bought Cooper and has changed the line dramatically, but the AT3 Discoverers were still produced in 2024 and they are TRYING TO GET RID OF THEM.

I just put over 60k on the last set and wanted new ones before we get ice and snow this year. I got them for $1200. The next cheapest quote was $1600.

If you can still find them, you will like them. Quiet, long lasting, and they grip the snow and ice like a tank tread. I spent winters picking up employees for the last 4 years during snow and ice events. Pic:

By the way, the new line of Coopers (by Goodyear) look good, but the cost has gone up.

Okay thanks for all the feedback. What about a regular road tire? I need to look at cost difference between these types and just a normal road tire. We just put Firestone destination LE3 on wife’s Honda Pilot. Don’t think I’d put them on my truck though.

The Michelin LTX's that came from the factory were fine. The Defenders look good as well, but I haven't actually had them.

I believe the 21’s came with Bridgestone Dueler HL’s which were bootycheeks.

I believe those Michelins were pretty good too though. I dont have experience with them so not sure how they’d do on camp roads

They seemed to do ok, but got pretty limited workouts. I pull in and out of a steep rock quarry several times a year, accessible by logging roads, and never had an issue, and drive across farmland quite a bit, too, but no serious off-roading.

Where they did not hit the mark for me was on wet rainy roads (I'm in Oregon) and on snow and ice.

How much quieter/smoother are the highway all season? I do not need a good looking aggressive tire, it’s just a truck. The defenders are too expensive, what’s the next level down?

I will also recommend the Cooper discoverer XLT, really good wet traction and overall quiet, they ride really really nice. But they are reallly i mean reallly heavy, like 80 pounds a tire, so they arent the best for mpg, but amazing for treadlife, should last 60k+ miles. I would also look into the Yokohama Geolandar G015, heard great things about them and they arent too aggressive meaning great mpgs.

This is a good website, i looked at this before i spend 1K+ on tires.

Also what size are you running right now?

Don't get the XLT ones, They are way too heavy and will make your MPG even worse. I have the Discoverer A/T3™ 4S by Cooper Tires® 275/60R20 (115 T) on my 2021 Tundra Crewmax and couldn't be happier. I got rid of the Bridgestone Duelers that came with it. I had the A/T3's on my Nissan Armada before I got the Tundra, and drove up to Minnesota & North Dakota in the winter several times. Driving thru snow and ice was no problem. The real test is how quiet they are on pavement and at highway speeds.
DEboater, go ahead and get them, you can't go wrong with them! You can thank me later!

Yeah I would like to keep the fuel economy I have currently but a mpg or so isn’t a big deal. These short bed trucks do great off-road. I have 275/65R18 114T Bridgestone Duelers H/T they suck and have not held up well at all.

Yeah I don’t want a heavy tire. I would sacrifice off road performance for highway driving. The truck does great off road regardless.

I think I have it narrowed down to two all season tires. Don’t need these heavier and more expensive AT tires, the truck does great on muddy and icy roads already with stock tires. Good first hand accounts on both.

I'm about to pull the trigger for the Sequoia and I currently run Michelin Defender LTX M/S. My local tire dude recommends going with Toyo Open Country HT2 or the Yokohama Geolandar HTG056. Substantially cheaper than the Michelins.
