Not only they are known of doing that (lying to government), they also didn't commit seppuku after being caught! These samurais have no honor, they can't be trusted.

That's not a problem when properly done. Plenty of 300 HP stock engines with even smaller displacement, happily boosting at over 500 HP, and nothing happens to the mains, even that the block is 25% longer. They, of course, are spinning in 5w50 or 10w40 oil, not 0w20 water.

Well I just purchased my 2022 Limited TRD Off Road about a month ago. It had 39,600ish miles on it. Now has 40,800 miles on it and my dealership called. Told me to bring it in for the recall. I haven’t had any signs of problems, but I guess that’s been the case anyway with other failures. So I dropped it off and they gave me a 2024 Capstone to drive while they order my motor and get it installed. Told me it might not be done till after January. So I guess I’ll just put miles on the loaner!! The dealership has been so great to me so far, hope it continues!

That was my guess as well. Had a 225 V6 in an old Jeep.

Isnt Tundra the "most American car"? 100% developed and built in the US? Samurais has nothing to do with it unless it is a new name for rednecks. ;)
    Am i wrong again?

If I remember right Mike Sweers spent a lot of time in Japan arguing with them and convincing them to get the F platform to account for/properly accommodate the US market as well. There was a video a while back interviewing him where he mentioned that.

The girdle style bottom end is widespread throughout modern engine designs and has been for almost 20 years for some automakers. It’s not an issue for anyone else. In fact you would be hard pressed to find ANY modern engines designed for forced induction from the factory that use anything but a lower main bearing girdle.

Holding incredibly precise tolerances and clearances in production is what Toyota does. The machinery they’re using is more than capable of handling the required level of precision even on a large scale.

That doesn’t mean the V35A-FTS is a well designed engine, or that the production processes were well designed when making the first two years worth of engines for the Type ‘21 V35A.

I have watched a tear down video of the motor type in my 95 Tacoma, the 3.4 V6 (5VZE I believe). That motor in the video looked to have had a type of girdle on it when he was tearing down the lower part of the block. Was I seeing that right?

TNGA-F. It’s Toyota’s new body on frame platform.

Toyota wants the engines back so they don’t get parted out at dealerships or end up in garage projects.

Disassembly, inspection, measurement and reuse would not be sensical or economical.

I can’t imagine world where Toyota is going to pay one hundred millionish dollars to ship back 100K+ motors because they’re worried about parts being scavenged. Toyota could simply require dealers to send a video of the tech drilling a couple holes in the block for free. IMO the only reason you’re paying $100 million is to save manufacturing and casting costs going forward, it’s an investment, and it’ll save Toyota a lot of money. Reman parts cost about 35% less than new. But then again I think this first 100K motors being replaced is just Toyota gearing up for a long campaign of ongoing piecemeal motor replacements once the NTSHA recall is complete. At some point soon, I think you’ll see Toyota creating a facility to take the old motors in to be remaned and the 3.4TT line can bet back to making new motors for new trucks.

When Honda had its infamous 5 speed automatic disaster, they had the process setup like a machine. Periodic truckloads of new transmissions on dollys in to a dealership. Truck departs with bad tranny's on reused dollys outbound. Shipping gets pretty cheap when you bid it out as a large scale repeatable workload for big logistics companies.

This isn't the norm for the forum. 3rd Gen threads tend to be "special" and people get a bit testy. Given how this has impacted members financially it's understandable that people react a bit more heated. Don't let it change the way you interact on the forum.

Where would the remanufactured parts end up? It's hard to believe Toyota would want to put anything re-manufactured into a new vehicle.

From the conversations I have had with the lead tech at my dealership, the replacement block has a different design in the bottom end. The two blocks are not interchangeable. The new blocks also have a new part number which was confirmed (for lack of a better word) by the car care nut.

All that to say, I personally don't believe Toyota is going to re-use the engines after everything I have seen to this point.

That's a better explanation than insufficient cleaning BS. I.e. the engine design was defective.
Where do they go otherwise? Landfill? Who pays for that? Local metal recycling? Who collects the cash?

Toyota may even get some profit by sending bad engines to smelting furnace, since it's a lot of good metal with known composition. I.e. can be reused for new engines, but from ground up. Japanese car manufacturers are well known for using recycled metals after all.

His video of the new part number of the motor did not say anything about the block being different. I recall only 2 parts and I believe they were bearings. 1&3 from my recollection. It has been off before, lol

I think there’s a good chance the motors will end up back at dealers, being used as “remanufactured long blocks” and put in trucks that are out of warranty as part of a partial or fully paid for “good will” repair campaign in the future. And like all remanufactured parts, the repair will come with a 12 month warranty or something. Hopefully for 3rd gen owners, it’ll be like Hyundai/Kia and it’ll be a “lifetime” campaign for engine replacement. It just makes no sense economically to pay all the costs associated with shipping the motors back just to scrap them IMO.
