Out with the old Mercury FE 410 gasser engine, NP235 tranny, Ranger overdrive gear splitter, and NP205 T case. In with the 1995 12 valve cummins, NV4500, and NP241DLD T case. The project is further along than it looks. The engine, tranny, and T case are 100% installed. Hydroboost brakes installed and plumbed. Brake lines plumbed. Radiator modified and plumbed. Intercooler modified and plumbed. AC condenser fitted and installed. I still want to fab up a different fuel tank and plumb the fuel lines, plumb the AC system, install dash gauges, maybe swap out the rear Dana 70 for a Dana 80, and get new driveshafts built. The project is moving very slowly since it’s now winter weather outside, but i am super exited to get it finished.

Oh, and the flatbed is actually a hydraulic dump bed!

I just realized that i have no good pic of the actual engine in the truck.

You're running an NP241 in that? Very interesting. Nice truck.

I was actually thinking of the NP231 and wondering if an adapter plate was required to mate to the NV4500. Never mind. Still a nice truck.

Rock Auto has the same set for $278, but with an $82 core credit, yielding a net price of ~ $196 (+tax and shipping, - 5% of course). Summit does not have a core credit. I chatted them up about this yesterday and asked them to price match RA...they offered me $10 off. Uh, no thanks.

I've been thinking about these for a while (I prefer the black, but they are inexplicably $50 more). RA gives you 6 months to return the cores.

It's the stock NP241DLD T cast that's out of my 1995 cummins donor truck. Not as strong as a NP205, but way easier to shift, and it doesn't need any adapters to attach it to the back of the NV4500.

i’m trying not to clutter up this thread too much with truck. That being said, my reasons and goals behind the build are-
-the FE410 mercury engine that was between the frame rails was getting a bit tired.
-the engine would get about 9mpg…unloaded down the highway at 55mph.
-i regularly haul over 3 tons in the bed and the engine had troubles going over 20mph when towing REAL heavy over the mountain highway passes.
    -i wanted waaaaaaaaaay more torque.
-i already had a 1995 dodge cummins 4wd that got totaled when a small car pulled out in front of me (the crash was not pretty one for the others involved…whatever).

I only have one goal for the truck. To make it the most awesome work/farm truck that i’ve ever had…x100. In the past, all the truck sees is hard work and abuse. Though it’s not a wheeler, it can get around all right offroad. Detroit No-Spins (aka full detroit lockers) both front and rear, high pinion 60 front axle out of a 1979 Ford 4x4 with the “Sno-fighter” package. Many cummins 12 valve swaps are done with the intention of having a nice street truck with larger tires. This truck will be the opposite of nice street truck and large tires, but built to tow and haul. I only have 305/75/16 (33”) mud tires, and i have no desire to bump up any taller to 35’s.
