What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Do you have any pictures of your truck with the 6112’s? What notch did you go with? I think this may be the way I go rather than mixing and matching suspension components. I only need 1” of lift for my tires, any more and I won’t fit in the garage at work.

Mostly stubbornness. Today, I wish I would have just pulled the intake completely. But I suffered through.

 

And the starter issue was 100% contacts again.

“New” refurb Toyota one

 

I'm hoping to replace my starter contacts sometime in the next year or so. It is straightforward?

 

Also installed my front tow hooks. I will revisit when I refinish my front bumper and skid plate. Had to use the factory tow hook on the drivers side until I get some shorter bolts.

 

Replacing the contacts part? Easy. Get a plunger and both copper contacts. Getting the starter out? Bit of a bear. Don’t be dumb like me, just pull the intake like the TRQ video shows.

 

There’s a decent amount of room under the intake to do the starter like I did. It’s just dumb and makes getting to the starter bolts unnecessarily hard. Lots of cussing.

 

Word around town is that the add a leaf is a hassle and does very little lift wise. I’m installing the 90-221HD springs this week I will let you know how it goes. Just watching my truck squat hauling firewood made me sad. I have a slight squat with just the topper and normal gear in the back anyway.

I can’t remember my lift numbers but I posted them here at one point. Pretty sure it was 1-1.25” up front on the 6/4 setting. I’m running 255/85r16 toyo mt so 33x10. I love the 6112’s but they aren’t the best if you crave a higher lift and have an access cab. They suited me fine.

Finally got around to installing the 2884s on the already installed 5100s. I had the OEM springs on the 3rd perch, ride was OK. Installed the 2884s on the bottom perch, achieved almost the same height, maybe 1/2" higher, but expecting some settle. I do believe the truck corners better and has just an overall better feel to it. Not too bad of a job either. I went ahead and installed the Suspension Maxx sway bar end links also. The bushings on the OEM were CRUSTY.

 

So OEM on 3rd perch was "OK". How do the new ones ride? Any softer?

 

Doesn't necessarily feel "softer", just less harsh, if that makes sense. Better feel in the steering as well.

 

What's your center hub to fender measurement now?

 

About 22 1/2". About 1/2" more than than the stock coils on the 3rd perch. I expect some settling in though.

So, as currently measured from hub to fender, my rake is 2.5 driver side, 2.25 pass side. My thought is that the bilsteins will probably give me 2.25ish of lift up front. I don't expect a full 1.5 of lift in the rear from the wheelers. Probably more like 1. So if that works out, I'll end up with about 1.25ish rake drivers side and about 1 on the passenger side. At least that's the plan. Don't check my math.

I figure these add a leafs will give me some flexibility. I think if things don't go as planned in one way or another, it's gonna be that I still have a lot of rake. In which case I'll just pull the add a leafs and roll with just the leaf pack. In the off chance that I'm squatting, I'll put the overload back in to get a little height. If it all hits the fan, I've got my old leaf pack and could cut it up to make some new leafs in a pinch.

 

So the ICON add a leaf supposedly doesn't do much. I've heard better things regarding the wheeler's add a leaf, which is what I ordered. I didn't do the HD leafs because I'd rather have a little smoother ride and I don't see myself going with a topper or a bunch of added weight in the back.

 

I ended up going with the Firestone Ride Rite airbags on the rear with stock leafs. I had a bit of sag because of the bed topper and tools that I carry around in the bed. I'm running 17-20 psi in the bags which gives me good body control and level front to back. I also like the adjustability for when I tow or carry a bunch of weight in the bed. I bought a small battery powered inflator off of ScAmazon which works great for airing and deflating the bags. I did not tee the bags for a single inflation point, so I have ability to level from side to side. So far I'm happy with the set up.

 

After I reassembled the intake last night following the starter swap, at first start up I smelled gas. Popped the hood and #2 drivers side injector was leaking everywhere. I inspected thoroughly and cleaned up all the gas. Gave the injector a couple of back and forth rotation wiggles and fired it back up to see where the leak originated. Nothing. No more leaks. Odd it wasn’t seated when I didn’t mess with them at all. No leaks this morning when I drove it either. Who knows.

 

Installed these yesterday, was tired of the stock horns but I'll wait till I really use it in anger to see how I like it. Currently only gave them a quick honk at the end of the street. Does look vaguely like a subaru now with the horns visible through the grill.

 

How do you like the dynamic friction pads? I put them on my Sequoia about 6,000 miles go and I'm not sure about them. Initial pad bite is good, but when I really get on them, they don't seem to grab as much. I may go back to the EBC I had before.
