The Toyota Tundras (as well as many modern vehicles) are notorious for inaccurate fuel gauges. This is especially true with Tundras (like my 2018) with 38 gallon tanks but with 26 gallon fuel gauge sending units.

It occurred to me that maybe the best way to know how much fuel is in the tank is by using an accurate fuel flow meter (there are dozens of them available at very modest cost).

In my opinion an ideal setup would have a dash mounted digital display with a subtractive readout. In other words the readout would start with a full fuel tank gallon readout (reset to tank capacity after fueling) and would subtract gallons as they are used by virtue of the fuel flow meter. No need to use the trip meter or guess how much fuel is remaining, the gauge would provide an accurate readout.

    Any thoughts on this?

I wouldn't waste my money on that, but it's your money, so do as you wish.

I'm not planning on doing anything about this, just curious what others think.

Scangauge 3 sounds like what you would want. It has alot of features that would help you with determining mpg. Here are all of the optional trip gauges you can monitor..

It also allows you to input your vehicles information like engine & tank sizes to give you accurate readings.

    Hope that helps:thumbsup:
