Noticed a leak under my 2008 tundra, up by the two front tires, in the middle. The fluid doesn’t have a smell to me. But the color is a dark brown like oil. Slippery to the touch.

Dab some on a paper towel to better show color…

I’d guess rear main seal based on location but that’s a big leak for that.

Check the oil on the dipstick and see if it’s similar color. I’m still thinking rear main seal.

Just went out and checked oil level after it cooled down. Level seems ok. The left paper towel in the pic is from the dipstick. Looks and smells like engine oil to me obviously. The right paper towel is form whatever is leaking underneath. Smells like nothing and looks different to me. Am I going crazy or is this not motor oil??

    Could be dirty gear oil.

that’s what I’m worried about. Sure don’t look like motor oil to me. It has no smell either, at least don’t smell like motor oil.

No it’s not transmission, it looks like rear main seal (gasket between transmission input and output of motor); but it could be leaking from higher up like valve cover gasket, I can’t tell from the angle.

however it could actually be the oil pan is leaking into the bell housing of the transmission and it’s not actually the rear main seal (that’s what mine did and I found it when I pulled my trans)

Monitor your oil level and see how much you’re leaking, by how much fluid is on the frame it’s a decently large leak
