24 hour dry fast.

Break the fast with as much butter fried sirloin, seasoned with nothing but REAL salt, as you want (I can crush two pretty readily)

When hungry stick to the BBB&E stuff. If that doesn't "sound good" then you aren't really hungry. Don't eat.

Win.

I'm on a good crew so it makes work a lot easier than it could be

 

My bad, I should have said seared in butter. Fried makes it sound like it's deep fried, and that is not the case.

 

When I was a little kid my Mom used to feed me alphabet soup insisting that I really loved it.

It wasn't until just recently I realized she was just putting words into my mouth.

 

Every job I have had after college has been salary. So my options has been to work 40 hours a week for a fixed amount or 40+ hours a week for not a red freaking cent more...

On another note, grabbed the Costco turkey dinner. Should last me for the next 3-4 days.

 

Yeah, I don't do the salary thing. I'd never quit working if there was a problem, and nobody pays enough for that.

 

I don't mind being salary as it gives me flexibility on how much time I can burn on a given project/task. I have been able to balance things by not checking emails or doing work things when I am at home barring some sort of emergency.

The pitfall is exactly as you said, unless you put the brakes on work you can work a crap ton of hours for no monetary benefit and straight up burn out.

I imagine getting OT has to be pretty sweet. My brother works at an oil refinery and he makes massive amounts from OT.

 

Eh, yes and now. OT is a double edge sword. On the one hand, if you have to work over the 40 you get paid better. On the other, the company hates paying it and will do just about anything to avoid paying it in most cases. That usually means setting unrealistic goals for completion of tasks, and then they complain that their rose colored crystal ball says you should be able to get 60 hours worth of work done in 40.

 

Perks on both sides definitely.

I made almost $25k on OT last year, that's a nice little bonus. The problem shows itself when guys get used to that income, then it dries up for whatever reason. Things get real tight, I see it happen a lot.

 

Yup. Always budget on your 40 hours. Never count on the OT.

 

Yup, that has happened to my brother on occasion. He has been fairly lucky overall as he picks up a lot of hours covering for people out sick or on vacation. The part of his job that sucks is that everyone switches between day/night/swing shift on a rotating basis. I can't imagine having to adjust my sleep to a schedule like that.

But that's why I always say the "perfect job" just doesn't exist barring winning a lottery jackpot and living the life of a playboy...

 

I agree that rotating shifts suck. That's what makes me like my schedule. It's a week on then a week off. I have 7 days between the flip for days/nights, so it's much more manageable.

It's only 7 nights in the 5 week rotation, not bad.

 

They were stupid and didn't budjet to live on the base pay.

Just about every dollar of my OT went to the retirement.

 

You're job/hours requirement is unique and cannot be used as any kind of comparison! LOL
