I've had seven cars before this one -- three Mazdas, two Hondas, one VW Rabbit, and a 1973 Plymouth Valiant (the "Golden Bomber"). At my age (and at this price), the 2024 Toyota Sequoia I bought last month may be my last. I'm still trying to figure it out but, so far, after researching this purchase for two years, it checks nearly all the boxes (except, yeah, that price). And I'm back to actually enjoying driving a car again ... so far at least.

That's great to hear! What are your initial thoughts on the Sequoia? What were the boxes you needed checked? From what I've seen that's a fantastic car and I think you'll have it for many years.

    1. Big towing capacity
    2. Lots of (safety, etc.) tech
    3. Lots of room and some luxury (at my age, I felt I deserved it) with the Platinum trim
    4. Lots of room in the back (deal killer ... until I learned how to remove the third row and install a deck) ... especially for skipping hotel rooms on the road (back's literally now a queen bed) and for carrying the dogs around.
    5. Reliabiity and good (as best as possible) reviews from Consumer Reports (I trust them, sort of).

It's basically a truck and SUV all in one ... exactly what I wanted. Downsides: Apart from dealing with dealers (don't get me started), the price, lack of color choices, and no walk-away door locking -- weird.

A few other tiny quibbles but ... so far it's a car I actually enjoy driving.

Awesome! The towing is a great purchase point that I don't think many consider, so kudos to you for that. You definitely deserve some luxury and with the Platinum trim I'd say you succeeded. The Toyota badge still stands for reliability, and being able to basically have a queen size bed in the back and skip the hotel rooms - priceless. At this point, you're going to pay out the ear for anything and everything, so to get something that's going to last better than any other brand (from what I've seen/researched), get the truck/SUV that you want, there's no hating that! And I won't get you started on dealing with dealers, Lord knows that's the bane of many people's existence; the way I get back at them is by grabbing as much swag (hats, coasters, stupid keychains, etc) that I can from them to feel somewhat good about having to deal with them!

Very glad you enjoy driving the car! Keep us posted on any updates, modifications, or just how you get along with it!

Keep you all posted for sure. Wow, I got no swag from my dealer ... but I did get a $6,200 discount (it was a "demo car"). So, I'll take that.

The first 30 were Great years - the last 10 not so much due to de-contenting and other mishaps. Sorry you missed the Best years.
