Hello all, for the past month I’ve been noticing my oil pressure gauge dipping down to 1/4ish when pulling up to a stop light and idling. This only appears to happen when driving and not while the truck is in park idling.

I’ve checked oil level on dip stick to ensure that it is properly filled.

I have a 2018 5.7 and I’m wondering if it’s an issue with lower idle rpm’s than are needed while in gear or possibly an oil pump issue. If you throw into neutral the rpm’s rise slightly and pressure gauge goes back up.

I have a pretty high mileage truck(225k). as I drive all over the country for work. Also, this thing idles all day most work days like an old diesel.

I maintain the truck very well, new plugs , normal fuel treatments, clean air filters, and so on so don’t think those areas would cause any issues.

Anyone have any experience with an issue like this?

    thanks for any guidance

At higher mileage 300k+ I've experienced this every now and then. Freaks me out when it happens. Someone on here said it was normal, but in the 17 years of owning this thing it's only dropped a hand full of times. It operates normal other times.

Check the oil filter housing to be sure you have the correct inner tower and someone didn’t remove it by accident.

    Too many, but not enough....
Do you clean your throttle body? It could be your oil pressure sensor going maybe.
