You have 12K# towing capacity? Curious of your payload.

    I have a 21 SR5 CM 4x4 and I have only 9,200# towing capacity.

You'll run out of payload long before you run out of pulling power.

You sure about that 12K? That sounds high for a Platinum w/4X4

8K lb. RV is gonna' have 1K+ lbs. of tongue weight, what's your driver's door payload sticker say? (Some people care, some don't)

Mine's 1,280 lbs. and my trailer's TW is usually about 750. I'm regularly bumping up against it, and have probably gone a skosh over on occasion and it's fine, but some people go WAAYY over... like dangerously over.

Bad news sir, you do not have 12k towing capacity. You have more like 8800#. Your payload is around 1150#. Might wanna check those numbers again. Start with your door sticker and get the payload and GVWR out of there. Platinum CM 4x4 models do not have anywhere close to 12k# as no Tundra does.

Payload is still way off on that chart though. $100 says the door sticker is closer to 1150#

Yep, payload is ALWAYS a lie. Anything that says "Up to" or "As much as, when properly equipped" is marketing BS.

My sticker is 1,280 lbs. and that's on a lowly SR5.

I think a sunroof eats like 100 lbs. right?

This. My 2019 Limited is also rated at 8800lbs towing, 1120lbs payload. Scales didn't show much difference when calculating actuals.

To the OP: I tow at 8k lbs fully loaded and I'll say that unless you are willing to put the time in at the scales and to manage your cargo and people/pets in the truck itself, you're not going to love the experience. At that far end of the limits, I can feel when the nose is lighter by as little as 20lbs or if I didn't tighten my sway control an extra 1/8th if a turn. I'm definitely at capacity, and while the truck tolerates it, it's a night/day difference when towing an empty trailer at closer to 7k lbs (to the tune of a full 1mpg).

Best of luck in your journey! It's a great tow vehicle.

As others have stated. 12k tow capacity does not exist. Thats like tow capacity for a gasser 1 ton of the same year.

Something else to consider, towing at or near limits can be fatiguing. If not for truck, at least for the driver.

If my trailer's hitched up that means I'm on vacation.

I don't want to feel like I need a nap when I get to my campsite. I'll probably take one, 'cuz I love a good nap and I'm on vacation after all, but I don't wanna NEED one.
It's one thing if you're going a couple hours, but if you're doing a long trip max towing will wear ya' out.

My 1st gen w/4.7L and 7,100 lbs. tow rating was plenty capable and adequate for my little 5,500 lb. trailer, but the difference between that and the '19 is just night and day.
Neither me nor truck are working hard at all, and I'm fresh and ready to go exploring when we get to the destination.

About 8000#. Towed it fine, but it was work for me and the truck. Not a relaxing tow, but truck felt capable.

Stripped down crewmax, I think it's rated at 10k max. I don't tow but I'm hauling WAY OVER max payload and MAX GVWR at 7200 and change.

    Lots of stuff!
The HD truck that we just got has a payload that is the same as my trailers GVW. If I could figure out a way, I would put the trailer into the bed! Save the wear and tear on the hitch! :)

The payload has been going up steadily over each generation with a typical payload of 1,300 to 1,500 lbs. It would be nice to have an optional towing package that provided higher payload to better work with the high towing capacity.
