Hey everyone! Hopefully I can find some luck figuring out a noise i’ve noticed today.

Only upon releasing the acceleration pedal do I hear this noise (video below). It happens under no other conditions as far as I can tell and am suspecting it may be transmission or drivetrain related?

I’ve not had any components replaced recently nor have I had any service done in the last 6/mo other than oil changes.

    Anyone got clues?

    • 2WD trucks have no grease zerks on the driveline. 4WD trucks have ample grease zerks on the driveline and need to be lubed with moly-fortified NLGI 2 grease every 5k-10k miles unless you like clunks/jolts when braking and accelerating. Note the slip yoke's zerk has a special fill process. If you've got no history on your truck, this is one of the firstthings you'll want to do.

Tell us more about your truck. We know it's a 2005. Is it 4WD or 2WD? V6 or V8? Auto or manual? What cab type, Double, Access, Regular?

I'm going to assume it's auto and V8, but knowing if it's 2WD or 4WD would help. What I hear (that squeaking chattery sound) sounds like squeaky serpentine belt, but if you're saying it's on the driveline, it also sounds like an absurdly dry u-joint, which, if you're 4WD, you should be greasing all 8-10 grease fittings on your driveshafts, basically at every oil change, religiously, else you'll burn up the needle bearings in the u-joints, which can lead to vibrations that will take out your carrier bearing next, etc...
