I have a 2018. With a 5.7 engine and on the dash a warning popped up that says maintenance engine soon. I had my oil changed 6 months ago and only put on 2500 miles. I called Toyota and they told me that every 6 months you should have a service done ,oil change and tire rotation. That sounds like a total rip off. This oil should be good for 10 thousand miles not
6 months. What kind of B/S is that? Is that right? Sounds like a scam to me. Oh synthetic oil is great. Good for 12 thousand miles. Or six months. I’m going to let them change the oil but I’m going to ask questions. I think the last time I took her in they didn’t update anything.

10,000 miles is kind of stretching it. With full synthetic, 5,000 should be the proper interval. I'd try to not go over 5,000 if at all possible.

As for the light, it may be at that the last oil change the maintenance was not reset in your settings. I think that goes based off of miles and not date. Just reset the maintenance right now to get rid of the mesage and if you know the exact mileage when the oil change was done..add 5,000 to that and change your oil then. Don't forget to reset the maintenance at that time.

5K/6months should be oil change interval. Like me ... low mileage vehicles normally don't get hot enough to burn off moisture that may accumulate inside the motor. Concur the maintenance soon lite is probably from maintenance minder not being reset, I find that comes on around the 5k miles mark on my Camry.

5k mile intervals for the light. Will first light up at 4500 miles and then go off after a minute or so. Once you get to 5000, it'll stay on.

General consensus here is 5000 miles OCI even with Synthetic. It's your vehicle so do as you feel is right.

I thought the 5K light was for tire rotation.

I think it's recommended to rotate tires with every oil change.

    None....
My 2021 says you can change oil at 10k if your not serve usage, and to rotate tires, check all fluids. Every 5k. That's why the light doesn't say change oil.

I wonder what the difference is from an '18 and '21.

This is from my '18 "Warranty and Maintenence Log". I didn't know about the "or 6 months" recommendation. I'm going to have to keep track of that as I'm a low mileage driver but i'm pretty sure a month or 2 over won't cause too much harm. My last oil change I did was about 1,000 over the recommended 5,000 and it wasn't too dark but going over just doesnt sit too right with me. I'm babying this truck.

Meh, i’m on the 5k oci and annually. Last time i send in the oil sample to Blackstone lab, they said everything is good and i can go to 7500 oci if i want to. Reset the light and do what you feel most comfortable. Most will go 5k oci and diy.

Every 5k or 6 months, thats generally the standard around here. I promise you won't regret it, ever.

Spend $40 on an oil change every 6 months or $60k on a new truck.

Honestly, if it’s 6 months and I’ve only put on 2500 miles, I’ll still go ahead and change it, log it, and have peace of mind.

But it is your truck, not mine.

I do 5-7.5k myself, but modern synthetic oils are getting pretty advanced and can definitely go longer. They have ones out there claiming 20,000mi now, like Mobil 1 Extended Performance. Anyway, I mainly change it earlier as I like to do more frequent inspections around the truck and each OCI allows me to do that.
