Second key wait time? Unfair Marketing Pratice?

Years after Covid and supply chain issues, it is unbelievable that the chip issue for a second key is not yet fixed.

However, the delayed remittance of a second key has marketing advantages for Toyota and dealer, like:

- Avoid vehicles resold in other markets far from the original dealer.
- Forces the buyer do return to the dealer after several months.
- Seems that it allows to make money out of it by selling it to you is you need it faster.

 

Just do what I did eat the price and order one and have it in a week. Then have the dealership program it for you. when the second one finally comes sell it. When i bought the truck they gave me the second key , just not the fob.

 

As @Observer noted. I, too, have bought one and plan to sell the Toyota-provided second when it becomes available.

 

Although people are still waiting for notices to get their second FOB, it's been reported that the shortage is over. Attached pic was an update on FB from a person formerly known as RyanG. The issue definitely went on for far too long....

 

I'm not in this situation but if I was, I would take this approach..

I bought my 2022 tundra a month ago from a VW dealer. It didn’t come with a second key and the original owner never got one. I called my local dealer and asked if I could get the second key. They said yes…..for $350 lol. I had to try

 

Took me 5 months to get my second key. Just got it two weeks ago.

 

None of those are true. The fob will follow the truck no matter where truck moves to. When you’re notified, you can order it from any dealer, not the one you bought truck from

 

And to think my dealer gave me a third key even though I told them I got two keys at purchase. 2023 bought in December. Two keys when I took delivery. Come in for first service and they asked if I got my second key. I said yep. Go to pick up and they hand me a third key. Bonus!
