On my trailer hitch it fits but loosely and flops up n down on a speed bump. Is the actual receiver bigger than a 2 in ?

Same here, also a 2018 SR5. I don't think it's a safety issue but it is very annoying.

Maybe just a shim or wrapping the shank in something? I'm using mine for an anchor point so I have upward pressure on it.

It does kinda lock it too. You'd need a wrench to steal the hitch. But who steals hitches anyway..

Scumbags steal whatever isn't locked. Same kind of assholes that steal spare tires.

A $25 Walmart drop hitch won't get stolen, they want your $650 curt sway control distribution hitch.

Lately in Phoenix there has been a bandit tow truck stealing pickups, they are taking the cabs and dumping the rest. Absolutely savage.

Wrap some gorilla tape around the hitch where it meets the receiver. A strip or two on top and bottom and one wrap around usually does it for me. Silent and snug. Oh, and cheap and repairable. And no extra things to bolt on and take off when swapping it out.

That won't work because the hitch is 2" not 2.5".

Solve the problem properly and take Godzilla's advice, not the duct tape advice, and purchase a hitch clamp. I actually use two. One for the truck receiver and one for the reciver on my motorcycle carrier. Of course, I only use one when not using the carrier. I keep a cheap ratcheting box wrench in the bed by the tailgate for easy on/off.

The OPs complaint isn’t an unstable hitch, it’s a flopping noisy unloaded hitch. The hitch clamps are great for unsteady hitch baskets, motorcycle or bicycle carriers etc. but a floppy noisy unloaded hitch only needs the cushion of a little gorilla tape. Silence, and reduced wear on the hitch finish preventing rust. But yall do yall.

Duct tape to solve this is a half fast solution, and rust in or on my hitch receiver is just about the last thing I worry about. I am actually using one hitch clamp I used on my 2000 for 20+ years. Rust was never an issue of concern.
