What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

IIRC from my recent hunt for a cheap set of OEM wheels, the backspace on those specific wheels and the similar T4R 6-spoke are both around 5.5" and therefore not very friendly for our 1st gens. You'd need to slap a 1" - 1½" spacer to keep from rubbing the upper half of your suspension.

But if you have no intent to lift, or you plan on running mild non-AT/non-MT tires that are less than 31½" overall diameter and similar width to factory, they should be fine. Sounds like that's not the case though.

 

Yeah I wasn't even thinking about the backspace on those wheels. I just prefer the polished/brushed wheels over black wheels with a silver truck.

And I do need M+S tires where I live and am currently at about 31 1/2" diameter, but I'll see what I'm using the truck for when my current tires wear out. If I get another dirt bike before then, I'll probably consider lifting it slightly and maybe going with 275s. I've still gotta deal with LBJs and replacing the TB in the next month or two. It's just so easy to get sucked into looking at wheels on craigslist.

Anyone know if the climate control backlight bulbs have the green rubber covers?

I'm planning on replacing those bulbs and I'm sure I'll rip the covers during removal.

 

I had to replace mine over the summer and I believe they did and the new ones didn't and I didn't notice any difference.

 

My 2006 did. And when you remove that and put in LED without them, it is BRIGHT.

 

I used a box of regular bulbs I got off Amazon and they were fine without the green condoms, didn't want to deal with having to replace all of them with LEDs just yet.

 

I put in Sylvain a Zevo lifetime bulbs and they are BRIGHT

 

Another bulb-related question:

My low fuel light has stopped working. I'm assuming it's the bulb, but it's got a different socket type than all the other warning lights on the cluster. It even has a different part number than the other ones. However a 74/T5 fits that spot. Anyone had any issues after replacing it with a normal 74/T5?

 

How hot do those little led bulbs get? Could you dip em in a translucent paint, or use a plastic cap?

 

I believe you can only use an incandescent for the fuel light due to its resistivity being part of the circuit.

Possible unpopular opinion: the green backlights on our trucks is cool. I like it a lot.

 

The orange in the titan is pretty cool.

okay nerds, if i wanted to keep my interior lights dimmable, but at max bright everything is white (for quick & easy cab lighting), then as you dim they cycle through colors so blue to red, so red is the bottom color at max dim. Like my gauges are brighter in pasadena, because of night brightness, so green, but around here, they're dimmer cause i'm looking for deer, so orange, and i turn em damn near off on long trips at night. But a dim red would be fine. Night vision is something to cherish as long as you can. Same with your hearing, so my stereo's always quiet.

 

Definitely has a 1980s vibe to it. But I love @empty_lord’s cluster where he sanded the green away from the MPH arch of numbers and stuff. However, for us 2005-2006 guys, that’s the only way to change colors. Y’all with 2000-2004 are lucky like that.

and yes, Bill is right. Can’t use LED on fuel light. And one other light I forget.

Reminds me, I still need to replace my D light, but kinda enjoying having one less light on the dash at night.

Swapped my caps shock today and tested it's new keys. One key hole was stubborn but works. They other is fine.
Once I got one of the old shocks off I could finally see the wording that was on the backside blending in with the rust. It's 28lbs and I got 35lbs. So I only replaced one side. Will keep the other as a spare. I'll probably get the weather stripping situated this Thursday, Friday, or Saturday.

Yes, they do. I just replaced mine with LEDs.

 

I chose the green LED from superbrightleds.com (194-GHP5), which mitigates it a little, but they are bright.

 

Was feelin horny today after all. So I mounted and blew these. Impressed.

 

Well I didn't actually do anything to the truck but I finally ordered a bunch of stuff. 6112/5160s, rear leaf springs, Suspension Maxx sway bar links, JBA UCAs. Still need to order CV axle boots and my wheelers AAL. Wheeler's seems like the kind of place that may have a decent Black Friday sale, so I may wait on those. Felt good to order it and quit thinking about it. Had a good October at work too, so that helped...

 

Phase 2 of my exterior lighting upgrades are complete. Fog lights are in and operable, I may try and modify the old plastic shrouds that fit inside to “finish” it off but I don’t hate the look as is. Still need to properly test them out so not 100% sure if they’ll still where they are or if I’ll have to mount them to stick out further.
