Can anyone explain why the Tundra/Sequoia TRD cold air intake is only good for 2014-2019 model years? What changed with the 21/22 models? I removed the intake from my 2016 Tundra when I traded it for a 21 Sequoia. I'd like to install it on the Sequoia. I've only seen one post where someone has installed on a 21. Thanks!

The intake is part number (PTR03-00140).

Many sites don't update their fitment years for a long time. Put it in and see if it fits.

Update: I was able to find time to complete the install. Went in with no issues and fitment was fine.

I remember it being a lot louder than the stock intake in my 2016 Tundra. In the 2021 Sequoia I don't hear a noticeable difference.

Is there any benefit to these TRD cold air intakes? Is it just for the red lettering when you open the hood?

Not that I can tell. In my Tundra it gave the engine a more throaty response when accelerating. Meaning it sounded louder. I didn't notice much of a difference in the Sequoia.

It really only replaces three things. So it's a better air filter and red accents. It does look nice though.

This is from the Toyota site:

Thanks for the info. I have the STILLEN Cold air intake on my 2021 Tundra and I know it made a difference. It actually has two ports of entry for air. One is through the fender like normal, but it also comes with a RAM AIR addition that feeds air through the grill. Not only did it add extra sound especially on start up, but I got better mpg and it was more peppy on the road. They claimed 20+ HP and 20+ lbs torque gain and honestly I believe it based on my experience. BUT, it was too much air and I burned out the MAF sensor with just 8,000 miles. The truck was getting so much oxygen that the computer could not compensate and it just burned out the sensor. Toyota replaced it for free once but said they would not do it again. So, I removed the RAM AIR and let the box get air from the fender only and I have never had a problem since. I am now at 63,500'ish miles.

The good thing is the sound didn't change it is still loud as hell and I love it. I will say the power may have slipped a bit and the 1 mpg better went away. With that said I have no regrets. The box is twice the size, I have a high quality circular K&N filter in there, and I like what it adds to my truck.
