My next oil change will be right around 75k. Would it be beneficial or just a waste of money to switch over to high mileage oil? I still plan on changing the oil every 5k miles.

IMO, high mileage oil isn't worth much. I'm sure it's probably beneficial in certain applications, but a quality motor oil should keep the motor free of sludge and limit/eliminate wear. That requirement is maintained throughout the life the motor so using a high quality motor oil at reasonable OCI's would be most important. At least according to me.. Perhaps others will chime in with other opinions or info.

    Answer to OP's question: NO.

The bottom end of the Toyota "high mileage range" is: starting at a quarter million miles.

Keep buying your regular Mobil 1. You're just fine. For a long time.

I’ve been using Kirkland 0w20 in the truck since I picked it up at 40k miles.

Changing it frequently is the most important requirement for oil.

Now, with that said, I do use high milage on all my vehicles whether high milage or not. But I also use higher viscosities then the manufacturer recommends.

High mileage oil is the same price as regular oil, so you’re not wasting any money using it. At least in the Pennzoil Platinum I use. It has additional seal conditioners in it to prevent leaks from what I understand. I don’t own a vehicle under 150k miles, so I only buy the high mileage.

I have an 08 in the hot humid Deep South. I run a lot around town and highway.

    * My 2008 5.7 takes 7.5 quarts with new filter. Fight about it :)

I piss money away on Amsoil 5W30 signature series and a fully synthetic Chanpion labs ( TRD oem upgraded filter manufacture).

Change every 5k miles, I get the oil for less than cost and I don’t want to hear the timing chains.

Do what makes you feel warm and fluffy inside.
