What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Yeah, each age has pros and cons. As dad of a teenager and near-teen, you may reflect on those younger years favorably. It's all fun and games until the first time they talk back to (or at) you.

Once they get past the years where you can chalk up behavioral stuff to, "aw shucks, they're just an X year-old!", it just hits different somehow.

 

If they’re old enough to talk back, they’re old enough to manage the consequences of things. My kids stopped “getting in trouble” when they could suffer the consequences of that trouble themselves. When they’re young, we suffer their consequences. Once they are old enough, they get to suffer. I’m not even mad at them (when they were in that 9-18) range and they mess up or act poorly. They just have to suffer the way adults do. I lay out the ground rules and the consequences during peace times. When war comes, they know what they’ve done and how they’ll suffer. They chose. They had to sign a contract with me when they got their first car. Because it was really my car, and I was merely giving them permission to drive it. Worked out ok.

 

Pops never made me sign a contract, but he didn't hesitate to remind me who's name was on the title and that meant he could use my (his) truck when ever he wanted or take it away from me. I lost my truck privileges a handful of times in high school and once in college.

I got the Rocktrix dismounted today. $15/wheel. One shop wanted to charge me $100. My original shop that charged 10 if I took the tire has moved/merged with another shop, they wanted $80. Such BS.

Gonna try and get the Rocktrix re-mounted in the truck on Tuesday. Then I need to get on it, and start listing a shitload of parts so I can clear up some garage space before winter.

Drove it today. I noticed I’m much more of aggressive driver in slow traffic when the brakes work well. Probably only a couple of weeks before the rear drum brakes fall out of self-alignment and that changes.

 

Gotta admit, don't love the gold/black Methods with this sports grille though. It's harshing my OCD.

 

Anyone ever try this method for adjusting your rear drum brakes? Looks pretty easy if it works well.

Yes, that method has always worked for me.

 

It works, as long as the auto-adjust is setup properly.

She's dying on the inside (rear quarter). In the spring/summer when we get done moving, I'm planning on learning how do some body work.
Either short strand fiberglass... or maybe weld in a dakota wheel well patch? Can't do any worse than what's already there. Still feelin the love for her though

 

I still say gold mesh, and shiny gold rear bumper, then color match the cap... That would be the tits.

I had that style of steel wheels on my 2000. They are probably the ruggedest wheels you can put on a tundra but they are also probably the heaviest and what I didn't like is ice and mud will deposit on the rim just behind where the center disc is welded to the rim, then the wheels are out of balance.

 

Got the ditch lights all tidied up, pretty happy with how they turned out. Just have to fabricate some sort of mount for the fog lights before they go in. New headlight assemblies came in today so I’ll be prepping them for the co-light mini projector mod and my lighting upgrades shall be complete!

 

Still going through the 02 AC replacing the incandescents with LEDs. Someone on here was doing the same and broke the shield over the glove box light. So, I decided to remove the whole assembly that holds the glove box lamp and open it carefully. Here's the part of the glove box assembly that holds the lamp with the lamp removed. The yellow arrow shows where the lamp belongs.

Next I carefully worked through how to get the lamp assembly open because 20 year old plastic is brittle. Here you can see that the notch on the bottom snaps in between the two notches on top.

The bulb was really small and recessed so far into the lamp that I couldn't get enough of a grip to remove it.

So, I made a bulb pulling tool out of a set of micro duckbill pliers and a rubber band.

With the bulb pulled, it was simple to replace it with one of the 74-NWHP3 LEDs from superbrightleds.com.

 

That's what I did to adjust mine. To get them really adjusted well, I'd stick a screwdriver in the part the cable attaches to, and use it as a lever. Like this:


Push the screwdriver in the direction the arrow is pointing- towards the wheel.

 

Every time i back up the driveway i hammer the e-brake a couple times. I'm convinced it keeps things adjusted, dont care if it does.

 

Anyone heard from @Voss lately? Dude had the best canopy setup.

Seems like a weird link/site, right? I was skeptical but I recieved both of my stickers (and a handwritten note!) from the Toyota headquarters in Texas. They even replaced them for me when the windshield shop took my stickers with my old windshield.
