Will running my AT tires at 40 PSI/higher really increase the comfort/mileage on my on-road commute?

Happy winter everyone. I purchased my first set of tires for my truck a few days ago. The truck came with 275/65R18 Hankook highway tires when I purchased it. I decided to go with the Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain Adventures in 255/70R18 because I read they really a highway/on-road tire with a bit of an aggressive look. My truck is a 2WD and the majority of my driving is city/highway. For some reason the steering and the truck feels "heavier" and stiffer with these Goodyear tires. The technician at the shop informed me that I can run a higher PSI to make the ride more comfortable. Any truth to this? Thank you all in advanced.

Apparently so. My shop ran all my tires up to 45 PSI, and I think it is a little nicer to drive. I'm on 275/70/18 AT3's

Increasing the air pressure will definitely help with that heavy feeling in the wheel. I'm running my 276/65/18 BFG KO2 at 40psi and that seems to be about the sweet spot. When I had the ranger I ran the same tire at 47psi and they wore out way too quick.

40psi higher than what starting value????. You could get to a point were you blow a tire cause they are over inflated.

What's the weight difference between the old and new? Are the new tires standard load? What pressure are you running them at right now?

Increasing pressure will make the ride harsher, no doubt.

You set your PSI based on the tires load rating and the weight and setup of your vehicle.

This tool will get you in the ballpark and is very useful when moving to a larger size or different load rated tire- too high a pressure and you lose traction and the tires will wear quicker in the middle
too low and MPG and road feel drops and tires will wear out faster on the edges.

Thanks for the quick and informative replies everyone. I am currently running them at 35 PSI. That is what the tire shop set it on which is based on the factory recommendation. This current tire right now is about 2 lbs lighter than my previous Hankooks. These Goodyears are 38 lbs compared to the 40 lbs of the Hankooks.

How's your alignment? That could also affect how steering feels. I usually get an alignment when I get new tires.
