Howdy! I just got an 05 Tundra (My 04 had a compression failure @ 285k miles, too expensive to replace engine - probably will sell to my mechanic so he can do it on his own time). It appears that this 05 has a better towing package, as there's an actual mount for the flat 4 plug attached to the frame instead of a dangling wire.

However, I need to borrow and tow a livestock trailer twice a year, and I prefer to be legal (have lights). There appears to be a mount near the flat-4 for an adapter bracket, but the one I got online doesn't quite align with it, and the holes narrow near the top. I'm not sure if there's a specific bolt or adapter it's supposed to be used with, or if this is perhaps a mount for something else.

I can always JB Weld the adapter on like I did with my '04, but I'd rather do it right.
Adapter mount? Note flat 4 behind it

    What I'm trying to mount

First, Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! Is that an OEM 7-pin connector? If it is, and the holes don't line up, there may have been something modified on the truck mount.

Thanks! No, it's not OEM, got it from a trailer parts website. I didn't know Toyota even made an adapter.

What kind of brakes does the livestock trailer have? You can’t truly adapt a 4 pin to a 7 pin as a seven pin has things like brake control, aux 12v, etc that aren’t part of a 4pin setup.

I don't have a brake controller, and am just using this to be legal with lights. I'm pulling the livestock trailer (which is borrowed) about 6 hours a year on low-traffic roads that are generally in good shape.

Yeah, that's basically what I have, just in a slightly different config. Even the bolt pattern looks the same.

Guess I didn’t understand the original post - you can let it dangle or drill holes to mount it. I’m not surprised two random holes on the truck don’t line up with the generic mounting bracket.

Is your truck a v6? My 2005 Sequoia has a 7 pin from the factory…

Forget about the existing mount, it's just confusing the matter. The kit you bought has everything you need, and is meant to screw into the bottom of the bumper with self-tapping screws.

If you want to do something different, your imagination is the limit. But all that's required is screwing the metal bracket into your bumper.

My '02 has a hitch with a little built-in arm, to attach the bracket. But on past trucks I just drilled into the bumper.

If you want to use the existing mount, you can fabricate a metal adaptor plate I guess. Just a thin sheet of metal, drill some holes.
