Never been a fan of heavy shoulder work unless it’s heavy db swings that are done post side lat raises. To me, shoulders are all about how much (good) pain you can tolerate. I tell people who think they’re strong on shoulders to grab 10’s and do six ways…good ego check.
PS- happy to share that with anyone here if ur looking to spice things up for shoulders

Do you guys follow, or have heard of, Dr. Mike Israetel? Body builder, strength coach, funny AF, but smart AF.

Anyway, a big take away I’ve had watching his vids, is being comfortable while weightlifting. If it’s uncomfortable, you’re probably doing it wrong.

After I separated my AC, I found discomfort with a lot of shoulder exercises that hadn’t caused problems in the past. So, I dropped the weight and changed my form, and it’s made all the difference.

I also followed Dr. Mike’s suggestion for bench press - I changed elbow location from a wide position to bringing them in slightly closer to my body (he suggests finding comfortable placement), feet on the bench to arch my back more (forcing weight on the upper back/shoulders), while at the same time bringing my shoulder blades closer together. It’s made a significant difference in reducing joint discomfort while also providing for a deeper pectoral stretch promoting hypertrophy.

Smart. One of the things I learned over time (for any muscle group) is if it doesn’t feel right, ditch it for something else. Just because (insert name) does it, doesn’t mean it’ll work for you. Sub it for XYZ

I'll watch the video, but I don't have any issues with the way I do it. I keep the weight light and enjoy adding the element of getting it above my head from the floor to start my reps. I feel the work all over from stabilizing it myself. Am I setting myself up for problems?

    calves....test time.

all you heathens see if you can do a Grok squat...and report back. no pictures please.

    it takes healthy calves/Achilles tendon.

there is not a strong correlation to health - like the gripper thing.

it just tells you how far rigor mortus has set in.

    go stretch you lazy bastards.

now, if you really want to test your limber-ness....

    stand facing a wall

    toes touching the wall.

now do a full grok squat.

this is the way I would test people before I have them attempt a squat.

    let's face it.

working out/training is for the top 10%. most folks just fiddle-dick around in the gym.

    yes...you high volume walkers count.

joggers? no. y'all go get in line with those road bike people.

    100%

This deep squat/stretch is exactly how I start every leg day. It is ESSENTIAL. If I don’t loosen up with these—lunges, rhino complexes, and even kettle bell swings can lead to pain in the knees and/or hips.

After you do your Grok squat stretches, do 3 sets of rhinos (1 set = 10 weighted jump squats, 10 weighted squats, 10 air jump squats, 10 air squats). Use a 60- or 80-lb kettle bell for the weighted portion of each set.

    Hate me later :D

To me, I dont believe overhead pressing does much, if anything for development. Incline chest press gets plenty. That being said, I have tried this before out of curiosity, and it felt great. Would recommend these over a BB overhead press any day of the week

My plan is to do wildlife photos at least thru mid November, why not. I have a supply stockpiled. I’d say sorry in advance, but I don’t like lying.

the workout tips, perspectives, I really appreciate. A lot of the stuff a trainer will tell you is wrong, IMO. So, I like the wealth of experience here and the different ideas on properly dealing with resistance.

Honestly most of the time when I’m doubting my workout and how I’m set up, I just ask myself — what would Chuck Norris do right here. Works

That's basically how I squat in general...

I credit kettlebells with helping to open up my hips and lower back while eliminating my shoulder pain.

If you have access to it, before any quad movement, start with an adductor machine to help loosen/warm them up
