Looking at a 2010 with 5.7, 63,000 miles. I saw that it has the flex fuel badge.

does this cause problems or only if you run the ethanol gas?

want to make sure I’m not buying a truck with a bunch of extra crap on the motor that will cause problems

    Don’t be scared.

If there is an issue, its related to the computer calculating fuel alcohol percentage and not resetting itself over time. On some trucks, even with using E0 or E10, it would get over the threshold to turn on higher volume level from fuel pump. This causes issues if you don’t need it.

You can easily check fuel alcohol percentage with OBDII code reader. If its high, the value can be reset, either with bidirectional scanner, Techstream, the dealer, or a trusted mechanic with the right scan tool.

Its well documented on this site if needed.

I’m getting this for my wife to haul the kids around in mainly and from the sounds of what I’ve read on this form it seems like some people don’t have problems and some people do because of the flex fuel. Even when they don’t use ethanol fuel. I don’t really want to buy a vehicle that I have to worry about not wanting to start or leaving us stranded somewhere Due to software or sensors what a bummer

My truck is a flex fuel, and I have no concerns. Just check the fuel alcohol percentage every so often. The vast majority of the trucks never have issues; its just something to be aware of.

If that truck has made it this long with no issue, its likely fine.
