In all seriousness I got 18 when on a road trip a few weeks back.

 

I too once got 18+ mph, but I was mainly coasting down off the mountains out of Estes Park, Colorado and never had to touch the gas...

 

I consistently average over 17 on trips to/from Cleveland (all interstate driving) which consumes an entire tank of gas. I calculate this by hand at fill up. I cruise about 75mph. I reset the gauge in the truck after doing a lot of towing in May. My total average since then is 16.6mpg. Stock is the key But soon to have larger tires and will eventually level so that will go down...

 

18?! That's beyond imagination here, with our mountains. But it's a number I can aspire to reach. Mostly highway driving here, cruising at ~64-75. Reaching log landings, etc usually pretty short but hard drives. Did you get that 18 right away, new truck, or after a break-in period?

 

I've pulled 19+ on a 325 mile trip with some mountain driving (RT from Vernal, UT to Christmas Meadows). I hit 18+ from Vernal, UT to Jackson Hole last weekend. I consistently get 17-18 mpg on highway, 15-16.5 in town. I run 40 psi in BFG KO2 275/65/18 right now. A few other minor mods.

 

That's encouraging to hear! Single, double, or CrewMax cab? Did you have a break-in period to get that, or was it at that mph from the beginning? My experience with CrewMax short bed in three months of ownership is that when not towing heavy loads, it gets the same 16.8-17 mpg on the highway no matter what speed is maintained. Towing light loads may or may not affect highway mileage, and if it does, it's minor. Heavy loads cut into mileage, no surprise.

 

I can only wish for that best for me about 12.5.

 

I have about 75000 on my 2014 Double Cab. I rarely tow. I do have a topper with roof rack (Yakima towers and the round crossbars), though. Mileage didn't seem to change when I got it installed last year. I put a cargo roof basket on (empty) for a trip to Oregon early this year, and my MPG dropped to 14-15 on highway. Not sure if it was the basket or heavy head wind. The 19+ was right after installed a BAmuffler. Highway mpg does still seem to be up 0.5-1 mpg after that. I installed a CAI shortly after the muffler, and mpg seemed to take a slight hit. Could be a heavier foot, though.

My 2005 Grand Cherokee with 5.7 hemi was horrible. 10-12 mpg in town, 15 on highway. The Tundra is like a prius after that experience.

Thanks, Utah. I've wondered about exhaust systems. A new one can pay for itself pretty quickly with $2.75 gas.

 

No problem. I'm definitely no expert, but my mileage seems to have a slight improvement after the exhaust upgrade. I've read that the stock Tundra exhaust is pretty restrictive. Not sure if there is something to that, or if it is just marketing hype. As for my CAI experience, I've never seen a noticeable improvement on my Tundra or Grand Cherokee. At best it stays the same, at worst it drops a bit. Not worth the money as far as performance goes. They do sound and look cool, though.

I generally get 16.5-18 at 70 mph on state highways, hit 19.2 a few times as well. I think I had tires at 40 psi when I got that 19.2, have since backed them off to 33 due to inner tread wearing down quicker.

 

Yup 35/12.50 MT but love the truck so all well had a Yukon that only got 11.5 empty

 

Very nice! I get around 16mpg during the summer. I did hit 18 on the way to Canada this summer, but that's pancake flat once you get out of PA. Most of the time it's in the 15s.

 

Man, there's something wrong with your truck. I get 99.9 mpg when I go downhill. Then once I am done with hills, it begins to behave normally.

 

I had about 2000k miles on it so it's pretty broken in.
I was doing 65-75 most of the way.
I'm all stock other than trd exhaust and bed cover.

Haha! Try 3.00 a gallon. We've been about around 3.00 for the past few months.
I think next month we get another .15 a gallon bump in taxes.

I normally get about 18 commuting to work. I think it was 18.2 when I filled up Sunday. My commute is about 52 miles round trip and almost all highway, so that helps.
