I’m leaning towards the three-bin plastic version. Partially because of the huge price difference from the metal but largely because it’s a full 4-4.5” deep; the metal is only 3-5/8.

    A few questions.

I understand there’s no road noise with these. But what about noise from items moving around in the bins? Do you find they slide around and make noise over bumps or when driving?

As long as I’m cutting the carpet and the styrofoam under it to install this (yeah, that’s not at all terrifying…), is it at all worthwhile to insert any sound deadening material under there? I mean after all, the whole point of Toyota including that styrofoam is as a sound barrier…and we’re literally removing four inch deep sections of it.

There is a piece of carpet padding that gets cut and works well below the bin. Seems like that is in the instructions? Like you, I was concerned about increased road noise, but I did not notice any. The back seat bottom seems to insulate that pretty well.

No noticeable noise difference for me either. I think I put the carpet under it because it’s in the instructions but I don’t remember

+1 for no noise. I do have the entire cab floor lined with Kilmat so that may attribute to my case but sounds like others saw no noise.

    easily the best mod ever.

No noise; use the piece of carpet that you cut out to put on the cab floor and the bin goes on top of that. Insulates and prevents any rattles.

It doesn’t make any noise. The only downside for me, is that I always bring way too much stuff when heading into backcountry, and you can’t lift that seat to get down there when the seat is covered in a bunch of junk

These storage systems designed by ESP @havasubud are the best.

Same as the rest, no noticeable road noise difference. I also don't notice anything sliding around in the bins either, but I lined them with the cut out carpet during the install, so helps to keep things in place, that and the bottom of the seat sitting right down on the top of everything helps keep things in place too.
