Time For Brakes!

    Howdy,

    65K miles and brakes are feeling it! Tempted to just stick with OEM and even let Toyota do the work but not sure about that and opinions appreciated. I tow an RV. Pads look to be ~5mm max.

    I searched the forum and found some information about EBC yellow and slotted rotors. I think I used these on a 4Runner I had ~10 years ago and VERY difficult to bed those pads! Other good choices?

    I suppose I could get the rotors turned or wait on that as they look relatively smooth. Problem is getting them turned is tricky. No shop nearby and on my own so cant get them to a shop! SO buying new ones best bet! Or just letting the new pads fit in...

    IF I go with the EBC what's the best place/price to buy them? Any clues on what they would cost me me for all 4 wheels?

    Trying to not do a 1/2 a$$ job but $$$ is a factor. I have ~$500-$600. Should that get me fixed up?

    If the oem pads haven’t been an issue, I suggest a quality set of slotted rotors, or even blanks and new oem pads.

    Look at RockAuto. Price out sets of kits. That money should be enough to cover it. I went with PowerStop Z36. Pretty top end. Not too sure about the slotted drilled rotors. They offer lots of options of good quality smooth rotors. Don’t scrimp on pads.

    Anytime I have tried aftermarket brake pads on any of my Toyotas I have regretted it. I now stick with OEM stuff and I also tow a travel trailer.

    Not worth getting EBC Yellow Stuff if you’re towing. Go with OEM rotors and pads, it’ll last longer.

    So does anyone here have history with PowerStop? I'm all in now, so can't swap but interested
    in hearing horror stories. After all the crap I went thru to get them, they cost a lot more than they should have.

    Powerstop is just cheaply made Chinese rotors with a fancy name. I’ve always had good luck with Stoptech products, and I go back to them because they use Centric for all of their blanks. Centric has always been better on quality and QC. But, Stoptech is more expensive than power stops. But you get what you pay for. Albeit, powerstop is still cheap brake parts when comparing their prices to better quality rotors and pads.

    Well, too late now. I'll update exactly how well they work out. I had a thread going and that was the info I got at the time.
    Questions about beefing up front components without lifting are coming. LOL.

    Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension, HD RAS, 285/75-18 Nokian Outpost AT, LoPro bed cover, TRD rear sway bar, DD 10 inch exhaust, and various other goodies
    Stoptech cryo treated rotors and akebono performance pad. cryo rotors help solve the pulse issues Tundras often get and akebono pad will offer better bit and not have any dust- similar to stock.

    StopTech slotted cryo rotors and stop tech pads. Only complaint…..Dusty!!
