My Maytag is only a slight improvement over that washboard.

It is so finicky about its balance, I have to take heavy things like jeans and towels out on the porch and wring them before it will get a spin going. Stupid thing is only a couple years old. Which, ironically, is the root of the problem in my opinion.

Dryer shit the bed. Looks like the belt broke. Pretty sure I will fix the belt and controller that is still sticking and sell these Speed Queens.

Guess a higher price doesn't always equal higher quality.

disappointed to hear that. Was looking at SQ in the near future. Maybe I’ll rethink that.

I would. We have been less than impressed with the SQ top loaders....at least the TW5000 series. Hell my Whirlpool front loaders gave me 10 years and less headaches. Another thing is the top loaders do not spin the wet clothes as well as front loaders. You will need to run the dryer longer. My clothes were cleaner and dryer coming out of my front loaders.

Now if you went balls out and went with a commercial grade front loader I would totally recommend that. When my washer crapped the bed and it took 4 weeks to get the correct part in (took 3 attempts), the local laundramat (relative term there...9 miles into town) had all SQ washers and would use nothing else.

I,know SQ had “upgraded” their wash system to “perfect clean” or something like that. There was an outcry and they re introduced the original (remember “new coke fiasco”).

I always thought sq was priced high but ya get what ya pay for. Sad if that’s not the case.

for reference we moved into, our house 21 years ago ago. All new stuff, GE run of the mill no frills appliances. stove, and dryer, and dishwasher are original. Still fine. Washer and fridge were replaced @10 years

my usual strategy is no frills, bare bones and prepare to replace every 10 years (my hot water tank went 20!!).

but now that daughter is self sufficient the bank of mom and dad has more cash. I,figured I’d start buying “quality” and thus SQ came on my radar. Not so,sure any more.

I recently picked up a Speed Queen TV2000WN washer, which is a commercial/laundromat model. It's hard to express how much I love this machine without using the F word several times. It has the original style transmission much loved by the purists. It's a bit louder than a big-box-store machine, but it completes the wash in about 40 percent less time. It's easy to tweak the switch that allows the machine to operate with the lid open, so you can get a firsthand look at how it functions in various modes.

It has only one water level: FULL TO THE TOP. For this reason it is not even supposed to be sold to the public. It's a $1400 machine, I picked it up on Craigslist for $800 NIB.

It has a residential version, the model TC5, which is mechanically identical to the commercial model I have. The only difference is the control panel, which gives the TC5 three water levels, and keeps the EPA happy.

I love the fact these machines are simple enough to work on yourself, with good parts availability, lots of Youtube videos, and a cult following ready to help you.

I love, love, love this machine.

Sold the Speed Queens. The dryer needed another full rebuild again (179.00 after shipping). We have never had more trouble with a set of washer and dryers.

Kinda funny, but after I rebuilt the dryer the wife and I agreed it was quieter than when we purchased new.

We purchased a set of LG front loaders with a 5 year complete warranty. This will cost us just under 40.00 per month to do laundry (cost of machines+warranty/60 months). The reason we purchased the LG was options, front accessible coin catch clean out, and when I asked the owner of the business what machines she had at home these were her units.

My LG washer and dryer have been going strong for close to 8 years! Fingers crossed for another 5 or so, or more!

We used to own Samsung machines; until both sh*t the bed. In 2012 we bought an LG front loading washing machine....we still own it. Bought an LG front loading dryer in 2016, and we still own that one too. Have been very happy thus far. :)

I think my opinion is just as anecdotal as the next person but I bought a pair of Samsungs from 2008 and I still have the dryer. The washing machine shit the bed in Feb' 2019 and we bought another Samsung (different model), so it's been over 5.5 years with it. With that being said, having 15+ years with the dryer working well and the only upgrade I've done is changed out the bulb to LED, I'd say I feel like I've gotten my money's worth.

Between maintenance, ensuring a good install and the fact that it's washing my, wife's, 3 dogs, a pig and an occasional foster animals' things, I'm not disappointed. If I get the chance to redo my setup, I think I'd consider Miele. I hate to say it but I do appreciate (am a sucker for) some of the bells and whistles as well as reliability from my appliances.

I have never heard of someone disappointed in the SpeedQueen. I have several friends who have purchased based on my recommendation.
Mine are over 8 years old so far.

Can't say I recommend them. Maybe I got the Dodge truck built on Monday from SQ. I always heard the same thing....SQ are the who's who in laundry.

I will say this, the store owner I purchased these LG's from said no machine is made to last now. If you get 7 years out of a set you should consider yourself blessed from the all mighty.

She did say that maintenance goes a long way. Keeping the machines clean, lint free, if they have catches clean them out weekly.

My Maytag is already giving in... only been 2 and a half years... will need to pull out my 16 year old GE while I see what I'm going to do with it... I'm thinking it's the board as it wigs out/freezes when it locks and fails ti start and it freezes between the spin and done, disengaging the lock.
