I have owned my 2008 tundra for a little over a year, and have had no issues with it thus far. Just hit 219,000 miles and I was driving the other day when my truck started misfiring very badly. It also is burning oil very badly. I scanned it with a cheap scanner and the codes showed that cylinders 1,2 and 7 were misfiring. I towed it back to the house and am trying to figure out what the problem is and what caused it. I have regularly changed the oil every 10,000 miles and check it regularly. I just checked it the other day and it was just fine. The engine is the 5.7l. If anyone knows what the problem is I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

You know it’s burning oil? Pull the plugs on cylinders 1, 2 and 7 and see what they look like. Are they fouled out? Is there oil all in the coil pack boot

also 10k miles is too far between changes, don’t go farther than like 6k

For the early 2nd gen Tundras, it's recommended 5k mile oil changes, at least my dummy light comes on at that point and time. I would also agree with @joseph_womack no more than 6k miles if there is info out there that I have no clue about. Check the sparks is a good start, if plugs haven't been changed, maybe second that once sparks are inspected.

Yeah, I checked the spark plugs and they are really black with oil all over them. Also thanks for the advice on the oil changes.

Mine are covered too, I just cleaned them with a rag and placed them back in. I have pictures of them somewhere on here, but it's probably the gaskets are so old that oil seeps in and never leaves. My other case was I bought autolite sparks and they started to fail well before the 80K mile mark and started swelling on the tips of the sparks also pictured. I swapped them out for NGKs, and I'm starting to get 18mpgs...

Yes it was. Started with cyl 7, then went to cyl 5, then to cyl 1, 3, 8 and settled at cyl 5 and stayed there. I still have the original coils from 07, still works just fine.

Valve cover gasket is bad, leaking oil through the spark tubes and seeping into the plugs, you’ll eventually foul out the plugs and ruin them and you can ruin the coils too, change the gasket soon

So if I replace the gaskets and the spark plugs and coil packs you think that would fix the issue?

100% agree. It's on the list. I'm searching for a water leak at my place, that 2 plumbers have failed to find.

@Tundramisfiring hard to say. If that was the root of the problem it should. If it isn't, then a borescope may help probe into the cylinder from the spark plug hole and check if any coolant is leaking in. If it's steam cleaned, then there is a possibility that you have a head gasket issue, or an intake valley leak.

You can probably just clean the plugs and coils, replace the gaskets and it’ll fix your problem, after you clean everything and you still get misfires replace that coil/plug with NGK from O’Reillys or the dealer

Sorry to hear you’ve got a leak. Where are you seeing the water at? Just curious I’m actually a plumber so I might be able to help you find it. Or eliminate where it’s not

No worries. I've concluded it's my water main, underneath the porch. I'm actually going to replace it from the meter. I got another thread on that. First I thought it was an irrigation system, then I cut off all irrigation plumbing and water is still coming, so it's my main. Plumbers the gardner and Water department think it's the neighbor's pool.
