Meanwhile when my Jeep Liberty Diesel's altenator failed I was able to drive it 40 miles out of a national forest on battery. When I got back into town and it finally shut down, the battery was at like 8.5V or something ridiculous. My battery tender wouldnt even charge it lol.

Dealerships are all the same I swear. Took my 2.5 gen in once and they blamed electrical stuff on my aftermarket add-ons and refused to fix. It was going to run me a couple grand so I told them I'd take off everything (even the Toyota LED headlights) and bring it back in - if the problem was still prevalent, they would cover it. So a couple hours later, I took it in sans addons and they stuck to our deal and repaired on their dime (warranty).

Stealerships will always blame it on aftermarket stuff even if they've not really proven otherwise.

Agreed. My local dealer has been pretty good so far, but I haven't had to hit them with any major warranty issue yet. If I do have to hit them with something major, it's going to be a real test of our "relationship" since my truck is so heavily modded. Excluding my suspension lift, roof rack, or my CBI bumper...there isn't any other aftermarket mod on the truck that I can't "undo" if they want to blame a component failure on an aftermarket part.

This truck is my first vehicle purchase with this dealership since moving to NV. I don't think they see very many modified trucks. My previous dealership in FL, where I bought my 2012 4Runner as a CPO, saw a lot of modded vehicles so they never gave me a hard time. In fact, I would say my service manager in FL fanned the flames of my addiction because of the 1st time I took the 4Runner in for an oil change, his first words to me were: "You know...this thing would really kill on the trails with a 2.5" lift and a winch bumper." It wasn't long after that I installed my lift. :D

It was a learning experience because everything I put together after that could be unplugged or unscrewed pretty easily... and now that I'm no longer under a warranty,

You know there has to be a code stored in the ECM that will show why the truck died and I bet it's not related to a low voltage situation. I wonder if you can pull the code yourself? I imagine the good folks at Toyota have cleared it already but it still should be documented. If and when this happens to me I've learned from others experience to record the dash lights right after it happens and document the scenario in which it happened.

How you were driving the truck wasn't hard, normal acceleration. That's scary because you assume you have to run it hard to make something like this happen, not day to day driving. Having your truck die when you just passed a semi truck is scary, imagine if you were on a single lane road and that truck was coming up on you...

When I took my truck in for warranty battery replacement (batt dead after 6 days of not suing the truck) and recalls, the service tech "in charge of all new Tundras coming in" told me that he very 1st item on his check list from Toyota is to look for a list any and all aftermarket accessories.

I have probably over a 100ft of added wiring in my truck.
Light bar, amber fog lights, aux backup lights, hardwired radar detector/dash cam, aux interior lights, mirror puddle lights, add-on Qi3 charger, CANBUS light interface module, 2 sets of aftermarket horns tied into the OEM system, multiple 3-way switches (lighted), on-off and momentary switches, current limiting diodes, powered subwoofer add-on...and probably a few more things I don't recall.
All of this is wired and installed in as much a "professional" way as it can be, to the point where the tech said that he won't enter anything in the system, since my wiring is as good as he's ever seen.
All electrical accessories run to relays (where applicable), BlueSea marine grade fused distribution block and ultimately through a 100A circuit breaker to the battery. Wiring done as much OEM-like as possible.

Luck of the draw however, whether a dealership wants to deny warranty at the first sight of "aftermarket accessories" and blame them right off the bat, regardless of those being a real cause of issues of not. Can't blame them either however, as they/Toy shouldn't be responsible to warranty repair or diagnostics on altered parts/systems/etc.
I think we all know the risks we take modding, be it within warranty time frame or not.

OP: I'm willing to bet your lights/switch module has absolutely nothing to do with what happened, but can't be 100% ruled out either.
I guess the only choice you have with them is to take your stuff out, drive till it happens again (or never) and bring it back in.
(or remove everything, then go to a different dealership now)

Well, as long as battery provides enough power for fuel pump and computer, any vehicle would be able to drive. (given that the alternator doesn't seize up)

One time we drove home on battery in the evening, turning off headlights to conserve battery. When we were almost home, speedometer and the whole cluster panel went nuts with all needles jumping and lights flashing randomly. Not sure how she was even running. 2000 GMC safari van.

Assuming everyone is being serious (my sarcasm detector has long broken)...no need to pile onto the guy because his situation is evolving. We're all fanboys until the brand proves us wrong.

If I hadn't invested so heavily in my truck, I might be seriously considering trading it in. Less due to issues and more because I'm at the point where I feel "done" with the project and I'm becoming restless & want a new blank slate to work. However, I don't want a divorce, so I keep it. haha

I've told other people that you shouldn't change your behavior because of what might happen. I.E. Worried about engine failures, etc. I haven't canceled any road trips or any other use of my truck because of it. In fact, in a few months we will (hopefully) be moving on a cross country road trip while also towing my wife's EV on a trailer from NV to the East Coast. All of that being said, I'd be lying if I said I didn't keep an eye on my gauge cluster nowadays whenever I accelerate to pass someone on the highway or if I think I hear a phantom noise. My trust level just isn't as high as it used to be with the brand.

@KroppDuster , you might be fine with the road trips. Depending on where your bearing explosion timer is set: :boom:

I took mine in today for the 5,000 mile service. They had a line item on the receipt warning me about having aftermarket floor mats. The only thing I've added to my truck are Lasfit mats. They are custom molded and fit perfectly. smh

I'd start going to a different dealership. That one is gonna use any little thing they can to get out of doing anything that doesn't involve taking your hard earned cash.

And now we wait for the thread 'heater leaked, rotted out floor pan and my warranty's toast because they said my non-OEM floor mats held the moisture'... :hattip:
Dealerships exist solely to take your money, they won't be spending theirs unless they think it's a potential lawsuit loser.

Yep it’s happened one more time about a month after this incident but this time it was making a left turn onto on coming traffic.
Never happened ever since though. Took multiple 1000+ mile road trips and just kinda babied the pedal.
Keep me posted about your situation. I just hope they extend the engine replacement to all the 2023s because I’m a few months late on this current recall.
