NASA has quite the history that a lot are building up from. I have over 35 years of NASA Tech Briefs magazine. Over the years NTB's always has called out for white papers from engineers. My biggest remembrance is how the transistor got smaller and that ceramic "thing". Oh...the Saturn 5 thing. More to come in bigger sized. Just sayin. We have calibration contracts with NASA contractors that will blow away Musk. Literally. Just sayin...

No doubt they do amazing stuff for the industry.
But Musk is the new guy in town achieving incredible success in a short amount of time (Starlink/SpaceX).

Starlink....near orbit. Meh. We have SpaceX contracts. I calibrate SpaceX goodies. Musk's stuff is all near orbit Sats clogging up that zone. Easy to kill by our enemies. Musk's stuff isn't hardened by any means. He has no far out geo-syncronis orbit stuff. Our NASA and military is way the fuck ahead. Musk is winging it. Just like NASA did. A good thing? Maybe. Mars soon? Pie in the fucking sky for Musk. Do you really think Musk is ahead of our black programs?

Ahead of them? Maybe not. More efficient, less wasteful, less corrupt, less siphoned off for political means, less clogged up with red tape? Abso-fuckin'-lutely.

I don't know enough about the industry to make arguments one way or the other but.. wingin' it with billions on the line, respect to that dude.

I don't buy into the OccupyMars movement, not practical for the masses

Disagree a 1000% . What was the definition of wastefullness, efficiency, corruption (LOL), at NASA back in the early days? Those folks were pioneers. The astronauts and scientists were truly doing something no one had ever done before! There were no fucking baselines or benchmarks to meet then. Politics? Sure. It was the f'ing space race and more against the Soviets. OUR ENEMY! Kennedy asked us to do it by the end of the decade...and we DID IT! What other country ever did such a thing! We put several men on the moon. Courageous men who were willing to give their all! Abso- fucking lutely! I will fight back on this relentlessly! Put things in context for the times. SMH

What? You eat JITB tacos. Those can't be less fat than a 16oz ribeye.

On a lighter note, I arranged to break ground tomorrow on my off grid property for a septic tank. Once that's in, work will begin on my year round single story cabin. 800 sq ft. Got a contractor who's built a few in my area. Waiting on pricing to get a well drilled and propane tank install. Lots of folks start out with cisterns. I'll install all the solar. Permits will determine when everything comes together. Paid down all my consumer debt Friday. Great feeling. No more truck payments.

Sal's Diner in Soldotna, AK had a killer $10 ribeye steak and eggs. The ribeye was cut thinish. Not a 16 oz. Bliss
    Alas. Covid killed Sal's.

Similar trick is to use a stick that will teeter them into the bucket. And fill the bucket with water. They'll drown. We do this at river camps all the time. Always get one or two every time we set it up overnight.
