Hi everyone I'm Jeff and am new to this forum I recently had my exhaust hanger welded as it was broken and when my truck came out of the shop the signals and hazard light stopped working. The shop did not disconnect the battery while welding on my truck but say it was not caused by the work they performed, they claim it is just a coincidence. Would like everyone's input on this matter.....thanks in advance

Debatable. It's generally good practice to unplug the battery when welding, with that said I've never done that and welded tons of things on vehicles and never had an issue, but I make sure to ground near where I'm welding with the thought process being the current won't flow through the rest of the vehicle.

If it left their shop with the issue and went in fine, it's obviously something they did though. Hopefully it's as simple as a fuse is blown.

It turns out to be the combination meter and its a total of $1732.37 to fix and the shop keeps saying it's not them...

Whether it's welding or something else they screwed with, who knows. They can claim it's a coincidence, but that'd be a hell of a coincidence that the electronics just happened to shit themselves the same time they touched it.

I'm not saying it is impossible, but I have to believe that something else went wrong and you don't need a new instrument cluster for turn signals and hazards not working...

Any chance you can find wires near their welds that have insulation melted by weld spatter or heat?

That would be the only way to get them to consider it.
Shops get a lot of people trying to scam them with "it was fine before you touched it" type comments. They don't know who is true and they have to look out for their business.

Doesn't necessarily mean they diagnosed it correctly. I have trust issues with dealers though. Check all your fuses yourself if you can.

I've checked everything from fuses to bulbs and resistors. It's the cluster when I signal it has the rapid flashing sound but doesn't light up on cluster and when I put hazards it clicks and doesn't light up as well so pretty certain it's the cluster plus that's the code that comes up when scanned as well

All power sources should be disconnected when welding on anything, so it’s nice that they admitted that they didn’t disconnect your battery. You can get rogue current at any time during welding, which is going to travel through your frame. Any electronic component that are energized can overdraw and potentially get fried.

it could of been them, could of been coincidence. I would crack it open and see if any contacts are burnt. You could also take it to an electronics shop and have them look it over, they should be able to tell you exactly what happened.
