Badlands National Park

I'm hitting the road tomorrow morning, bright and early. I'll be leaving the Memphis, TN area headed to the Badlands in South Dakota. The route that I mapped out for myself is about 1,312 miles (one way) and only 108 of those miles will be on the interstate, because that's the proper way to road trip.

I'll be recording the trip in travelapse mode on my dashcam in case anyone likes watching those kinds of videos.

Nothing like a cigar and a glass of whiskey outside of a roadside motel out in the middle of nowhere in Missouri.

Any other stops? We just got home today from a 5 National Park trip, including Badlands.

 

Nah, just the Badlands. I only have a week to work with. And I just like road tripping so for me, the drive itself is the vacation, not so much the destination.

Awesome! Enjoy the trip. Love a good road trip eating at small diners, seeing random stuff, and deciding to take side trips because you can. One of the best memories I have on a road trip between TX and OR was seeing a sign for Billy the Kid’s gravesite. Yep, we had to go see that!

 

Day 2 of my journey. US-65 up through Missouri and into Iowa was fantastic. Virtually no other traffic on that stretch. I felt like I had the whole road to myself for a couple hours.

If you are taking back roads it is harvest time so you will have to be aware of things flying as trucks go by. It is the season up there for windshield chips, cracks, and totally shattered ones too!

 

So far, just a crap ton of bugs hitting my windshield.

 

I am on my third detailing!!! I think I finally got er done! Had so many dead critters you could smell the dang things!!!!

I know better as I farmed for 13 years up that way. Instead of taking interstate to a small town in South Kadota we wanted to see the scenery and we took the back roads. Ended up with a big chip according to the guy in Mitchell that fixed it! He did not charge us and took me on a tour of their massive addition they are adding on. They do everything trucks up there!!
The name of the place is Make It Mine Design in case anyone gets up that way and needs something. Good peoples!

We just put on 3100 miles. Lots of fires in Wyoming and Colorado. Things were smoky in Grand Rapids. One place in Wyoming it look like it was snow flurries! HA!!!

Garmin Dashcam 47. Nothing special, base model really. But I like it.

We hit that too a couple months ago, loved how secure his gravestone is after being stolen so many times.

 

If your going to be in that area, why not go to the Black Hills? your not that far, and the speed limit on I-80, is 80MPH

 

I did the Black Hills last year, as well as Mt. Rushmore and Deadwood. I had only passed through Badlands and was very impressed, so I'd like to see it a little more. I also want to check out Wall Drug.

I only dreamed of getting a video of this. A big ass buffalo decided to cross the road right in front of my truck! He even tried to stare me down, but he realized he was no match for me so he continued walking.
