I've been building my truck specifically for mountain biking and surf adventures and I thought I'd show the best solution I've found for mounting bikes.
Hitch mounts are great, but I wanted a solution where I can lock my bikes up but still have space to camp/sleep. (more photos on the camping setup coming soon)
I'm working with the 5.5' bed, so this is no easy task.
Here's what I have so far...
I drilled through the composite bed to mount L track. Seemed daunting at first, but ended up being no big deal
I lined up the holes with this groove on the underside of the bed, secured with washers and lock nuts
I cut relief in the bed rug and used this flanged L track from Freedom Coast to hold the bed rug in place and for the cleanest look
These mounts rotate around the base, which allows me to use every inch of the bed, and also to mount more than one bike close together.
I also have this bulkhead crossbar from BuiltRight Industries. This allows me to mount a bike backwards, so now I can fit 3 bikes if I need to.

very nice setup, what made you go with freedom coast other than the many other fork mounts available? given that they cost more than most

I really needed the adjustability to make this fit in this short bed. My longer travel Mtb uses every inch of the bed length. Also, turning the bars as some other mounts do is not an option as I would not be able to close the topper. I also like that I can remove them with no tools so they are not in the way when I am loading other cargo. They are also made in the USA, local to me so that is an added bonus.

    That’s a good looking hard-mount solution.

I’ve always carried bikes on front dropout mounts in the bed, though on a weighted Saris brand flat track that just rests on the floor. They do like to bounce around on rough roads and I’ve always kicked around ideas like this.

    Thanks for sharing.

How do you secure your front wheels?
