Agriculture will get hit the hardest. Their products are perishable. Port down......yuge problem. In this case there will be yuge over supply
driving down prices drastically to the point there is no profit. At that point producers will stop producing to minimize the damage which will then drive prices up drastically to due supply shortages.

Going to be a mess real quick. It will also speed up port automation I think. Then the ports will be 24hr/7 day a week operation.

I think the strike is going to hurt the country economically and hurt the longshoreman in the long run.

If I was running the ports I’d push super hard for automation now so it removes the threat of future strikes. Adios union longshoremen.

Sort of a “be careful what you wish for” scenario.

My old union would fight stupid battles and get little wins, but overall the GOV always ended up screwing us. Sometimes what management offers is better than what you think you’re fighting for. There’s always fine print.

Automation is part of why they're threatening to strike - too much automation drives out union workers. Fewer union workers means fewer union dues. Union leadership can't have that.

100% agree, i think it’s just going to accelerate the transition, and the strike is going to be the justification for it.

Automation, is what UPS is doing.
All new hubs built in the last few years are super hubs.
Most of the in-building sorting is now automated.
That gets rid of a lot of part-time sorters and their supervisors.

My hub was built in 1986, I've been there since then.
It is now closed while they gut it and install new automated belts and optical robotic sorters.
They are doing this to more and more older hubs.
They still need drivers, trailer load/unload, and package car load/unload, but they can get rid of a lot of employees (not having to pay their pay, pension, and benefits).

I said goodbye to my 2011 Toro 20383 mower today.
It was kinda sad, we've been together since April of 2011.
This weekend the main seal blew and the local shop wanted $350 to fix it, I let them keep it for parts.
Even they said I should probably get another one and they don't sell new mowers.
I kept adding oil just to finish the front yard yesterday.

I found a video on how to replace the seal, but I don't have the time or patience for that.
I got a good 13 years out of her with no issues, always stared on the first or second pull..

I'm putting oil in the new one right now.
I can already tell it isn't as well made as the old one..
But $100 off at Lowes, new one was $480 OTD..
    This one stores upright....
Gonna pick up dog poop and mow the back yard.

I've had that upright storage model for several years now. It's great. Reminds me I need to replace the wheels.

Price caps are useless if there is nothing to price cap if it's not profitable to make or produce.

America's ports are least efficient compared to all the other major ports on the planet. Hell, Congo's ports are more efficient. Automation is key.

If you need a pickle back (or beer back, water back, etc.) you're drinking the wrong whiskey. Or you need to tell your mom to get you some Sunny D juice packs.
