I put in 5w30 when i did the oil change. Not sure what was used by previous owner. Carfax said dealership changed the oil previously at 5,000 intervals.
When i get some free time. I will try to get a more accurate video of the sound.

I’d just ignore it. It sounds completely normal.

i may try that at the next oil change. I had a 2017 sequoia i traded in for this platinum. Had it for 7yrs and i definitely dont remember it being as loud. I was using 0w20 even change over to 5w30. The knocking just seems so much louder on this truck for some weird reason. I have a friend with a 2016 sr5, next time we go visit, i will ask him to let me hear his truck. That will give me peace of mind.

5W30 has definitely made my 3UR quieter, but honestly, it's still pretty loud. The 5.7 is just not a quiet engine. It's louder than my ticking-time bomb cam roller sticking 15-year old 5.4 Triton in the F-150.

5w30 as others said has helped mine, but there are days I am driving it and the knock still gets me. I just keep doing my regular maintenance and power through. She has given me 90K trouble free miles.

Seems pretty normal. Change your oil every 5K with full synthetic and you can sleep pretty easily.

I did 5w30 Mobil 1 and it made a little difference, swapped to 5w30 Amsoil and its silent. It's been 7k since I changed it and it's still quiet.

This last oil change i went with pennzoil ultra platinum 5w30. Been running pennzoil platinum 0w20 on the sequoia since brand new prior to trading it in for this platinum. I may try amsoil 5w30 next round and see.

Really? Like if this Is true Amsoil could just show a video of my truck clanking and clicking away on mobil one oil. Then they put there oil in and it's "Silent" I and everyone else would switch immediately to their oil and never buy another brand again. Is it maybe placebo effect?

My wife and my daughter both noticed how much quieter it is. When going up hill, it would get pretty noisy, now it's silent. Myndad has a 2018 and his uses what evwrbpil the dealer puts in, and his is definitely louder.

wouldnt hurt to try, really. I already bought 2 gal of 5w30, some 75w90 severe gear and oil filter from amsoil. Im going to do the front and rear diff with amsoil and ravenol 75w in the transfer case. Might as well do the oil too while im at it.

I would love to see cell phone videos like the others have posted showing the sound of "silent" with different oil. I think once you put a cell phone next to the block it's going to sound the same.

Took the same course you did. Pennzoil is a very good oil and far less expensive than Amsoil, very comparable to each other from what I’ve gathered on YT reviews/tests. I do like Amsoil for other applications, see below, their oil is just too pricey for me for a 5k OCI.

-Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, 5w-30. 5k OCI, OE filter.
-Amsoil Severe Gear, 75w-90. F/R diff. 30k OCI.
-Ravenol, 75w. Transfer Case. 30k OCI.
-Amsoil HD metal protectant, annual applications to frame.

Im in the trial period. I, too, think amsoil is also expensive for 5k oci. But willing to try it 1 time. I will probably go back to pennzoil later as it serve me well before.

It doesn’t go completely silent. But the ticking is muted compared to before. I think it just means that it’s sticking to the noisy parts of the engine (lifters, timing chain, etc) better.

Amsoil is legitimately great oil. I just don’t think I need to use it if I’m sticking to 5k OCI. Kirkland 5w30 is also great oil at a killer price (especially when on sale).

Mine sounds like that (it is a 2020). Sounds a just slightly louder when it is cold/winter until it warms up. It is noticeably more smooth and quiet immediately after an oil change, then after a 100 miles or so, it sounds like that again. My 5.7 Hemi in my 2004 Dodge sounded similarly but had a much more noticeable tick (the infamous "hemi" tick). Never worried about it or had any trouble with that engine either. It would do the same and sound smooth and pretty quiet after an oil change then go back to its normal sound within a hundred miles or so. The only thing I do different on oil is that I run high mileage oil exclusively from the very first oil change. I run the recommended weight and change every 5k.

What prompted you to run high mileage oil over regular synthetic? For the extra additives?

Yes. I started it when they moved from seal swellers to seal conditioners. I figure if you wait until there is a leak, really the only fix is to replace the seal. Keeping them conditioned from the start makes more sense to me. I have done that will all my last several vehicles I have purchased new (including the 04 Dodge I mentioned that I had for 15 years) and I have never had leaks or seepage. I know a lot of folks think HM oils are snake-oil because generally oil has seal conditioners already, but what I use is only a couple bucks more per jug and I figure if it does help, great, if it doesn't then it isn't hurting anything. It seems to be just a tad thicker too. Basically, it hasn't seemed to hurt anything so I'm sticking with it. When I put a scope down inside, everything looks nice and clean, but that's probably due more to 5k OCI's, but again, it ain't hurting anything.
