Moving to Anchorage, Alaska

As the title states, I’m moving really far north. For those that have driven in the snow, more specifically, has anyone driven the Alaskan Highway. I’m driving to Anchorage from Biloxi, MS in my Tundra 4wd, leaving toward the end of October.. Report date at Elmendorf AFB is 13 November. I’m just wondering what to expect and how does the Tundra do in ice/snow?

Also, does anyone have a engine block heater or have any suggestions before I head north?

Back in the day I used a can of sterno under the oil pan. I’ve used different models of this in the past too

 

The Alcan is a great road!! You shouldn't have any trouble in your Tundra. I took a '76 Datsun, pulling my snowmobile the middle of October from Idaho. 5 trips up since then. I'm sure you'll figure out the essentials for long distance travels up north, where towns are far and few between.
Most importantly, thank you and enjoy your trip. Elmendorf afb sits on the best real estate in Anchorage imho.

 

Anchorage gets cold but it's not like the northern territory. You should be good to go unless you just watched the extra desurity of the block heater. It gets pretty cold where I live and I've never needed one in any of my vehicles, though it would have been nice a time or two. Sometimes she gets irritated when it's too cold, but she ALWAYS cranks.

If you get the block heater make sure to get one with a timer so it'll get going a couple hours before you crank up.
