I had a new radiator installed in my 06 double cab 4.7 a couple weeks ago. Since there is no dipstick should I go through the trouble of taking it to a shop to have the level check and refill procedure done??

On my 06 double cab,i had a transmission cooler. I don’t think my trans lines went through the radiator.

i would double check for you but i sold the truck last week

The transmission fluid does go through the radiator and yes if you're positive the shop that did the radiator replacement didn't top off the transmission fluid you need to get it done. You lose enough to make a difference and to make it worthwhile as far as I'm concerned.

I know for sure the ATF level was not checked after radiator replacement. From what I understand the transmission has to be at a certain temp range and the level is then checked from underneath and that was not done.

They probably plugged the lines when they removed them from the radiator just to prevent dripping everywhere and on everyone. You also have to consider the fluid in the old heat exchanger as well. Long story short, I think about 8-12oz total will leak and/or be removed with a radiator swap. A fluid check is prudent in my opinion.

When I did mine, I used hose pinch off pliers so really none was lost. Wouldn't hurt to have it double checked though.

Not only check it, now would be a great time to do a drain+fill on the transmission if it hasn't been done in a while.

So if I pinched it off as well and only lost....less than a teaspoon of fluid...probably more like 1/2 tsp fluid...would I still need to replace that or is it fine? If I do, which it being such a small amt...I could probably just do it at home, correct? Thanks in advance.

Your transmission is sealed. If you're 100% positive it's only a thimble or so of fluid, I can't imagine it'll make a huge difference. But there is a process to follow with the sealed trans on the '05-'06 as Faye shows in this video.

I have a 2006 Double Cab (different radiator than the Access Cab, don't know what you have). When I swapped my radiator, I also pinched my cooler lines. I certainly lost more fluid than a thimble's worth. Don't know how much I lost though... So I took the opportunity to add more fluid, then check the fluid level (and remove the excess fluid). I followed Faye's video that Shifty linked above, everything worked out great. You should probably do the same.
