    Hello to all,

    First post in the forums.

Just brought home a 2024 Silver TRD Tundra. I was discrete in the sales process that I did not want to invest in an auto that the engine cuts off when you stop [at a traffic light]. My wife's car does that and it turns down the AC. When it's 95-105 in the summer, you do not want the AC going off or down. Furthermore, I do not want to replace a starter anytime soon. Well, during the pre-pick up car time, and going over the features, I found out otherwise.

Question: When the Truck completely stops, does the engine completely shut down to where there is actually no fuel being used at all, then the starter engines to restart the engine, or does just the idle become real low? I was told the latter. I know you can turn off, but that needs to be done every time you restart the car.

    Thank you very much,
    tstex

just turn off the auto engine off - press the button and the "a" will show up indicating the function is off - of course you will need to do this after each time you start the engine.

Auto start stop will turn the engine off when you come to a complete stop on the new Tundra if you depress the brake pedal hard enough. If you lightly use the brake when stopped, it may not cut off at all. Pushing the cancel button as previously mentioned will deactivate this feature all together. If you have the hybrid model, the stop start is very seamless I hear.

If you have a hybrid there is no button to turn it off. You just have to live with it. I thought I was going to hate it but honestly doesn’t bother me at all and it’s kind of cool riding around in electric mode at low speeds. You can always ride around in Tow/Haul mode on the hybrid and that keeps it from auto start/stop.

Engine shuts off completely and turns back on after a few seconds. AC will keep blowing cold though.

Throttle control or Sport mode standard? <<<Post 24 of this thread.
I’ve had it since Feb and actually forget the truck has auto stop, aside from the orange dash light. Plug and play, no splicing wires.

Thank you to all. My truck is not a hybrid.
@donia, did you install this module on your truck? If so, did you do it while your truck was still under warranty?

Customarily, if you add anything non-Totota approved, they will void your warranty if there's any issues that they can trace back to your added module. Here is something else I found w instructions, but yours seems to be much simpler and way less labor.

Thanks again to everyone, appreciate it.

Unplugging the “hood open” pin switch on my daughter’s Jeep Cherokee disables start stop on hers. :notsure:

There's a button with an "A" with a circle around it. You can turn off the auto-engine-off by pushing it. Super easy fix.

Notably, the A/C still blows cold air when the vehicle shuts off. But if it can't keep it cool enough, the engine automatically switches back on. I kind of like that feature.

What is the correlation between these two features, or is the on/off on the same pin as the hood open>

Yes, I am aware of the button, thanks. But what is frustrating is that feature, the larger starter, add'l chips and programming all have a solid cost to it. More bells and whistles, more probable shop time. I wish it was something you could buy as an added feature if you wanted it, not as std/built in.

It's on Amazon for like 15 bucks. It's plug and play. Just install and remove when getting service if you're worried.

@tstex ^^^Easy install. Still under warranty and my truck has been in for service and a couple of “could not replicates” with no mention of it. Easy to remove if you’re wary of leaving it on for service. The blue plastic is the tool provided to pop the panel off. Unplug the connector to the button, plug into button and other part you unplugged. Can’t be put in backwards, as it only fits one way.

it’s one of the checks the computer makes on startup. If the hood is “open” the auto start stop doesn’t work. Thankfully there is no “hood open” light or chime that illuminates

My stop/start never activates because I keep the pedal above the threshold at every stop. Since you just got your truck, I recommend just driving around for a few more days before buying the eliminator thing. You'll quickly learn where that threshold is to prevent it from activating.

It will only shut down automatically in Park. In drive you must stomp the brake. Even then it will restart if the AC can’t maintain temp or the batt needs to recharge. *On Starters - Toyota has engineered these starters to handle 185,000 starts. (They’re not our old starters) The truck even counts them and gives a warning that replacement may be necessary soon IF you ever approach that number.

I have the hybrid, but my AC still blows cold no problem when the engine shuts off at a light or in a car wash, etc.

Hybrid AC is electric and runs off the battery. That is the same across all of Toyota's hybrids.

Non hybrid AC is mechanical and the compressor only runs with the motor. I guess they rely on residual cooling when the engine is off.

I'm so used to hitting the off button for the auto start stop in the company provided vehicle during the week, I catch myself looking for it in my 2018 Tundra.

A great deal of thought went into auto start stop on non hybrid cars only to save some of the emissions the EPA wants. Yet we mostly turn it off knowing more complication leads to higher rates of failure.

A good explanation of how it works.

All those features are directly related to how you vote. The EPA and its regulations are why they exist.

Yes but our high was what, like 80 degrees? lol

Auto start/stop is the one ‘problem’ I’ve had with the truck. This stopped working within the first two weeks. But I like that ‘feature’. I don’t think I’ll ask them to fix.
At the time I got an error, something about the battery was low. If it relies on some small battery, maybe removing that would disable?

Doesn’t matter if its 102 or 80. The air is still as cold coming out when engine is off. Cmiles97 explanation makes sense as to why. Guess just helps prove the hybrid is better ;)

It is "Nanny tech" that the US DOT had to have in all vehicles. More bullshit from our government. I have bypassed it on my Jeep and if I was going to keep this thing, I would also delete it. Maybe swap this shit for Home Link? I bet it is cheaper....
