Crappy Stereo??

Just bought my Tundra last week and coming out of my Ford F150 Plat I feel like I have gone light years backwards in the stereo system. I thought the JBL system was supposed to be great and it really sucks! Is this the norm or do I have a bad system? It sounds really weak and very "tinney" for lack of better words. Also the speakerphone speakers SUCK! Way to high pitched and again kind of tinney. Any options for change outs that aren't going to break the bank?

Tried just EQing it?

 

Its probably the worst stereo installed in any vehicle sold today. The only way to make it really better is a new head unit and speakers. Not enough power for aftermarket speakers and when you amp the factory head unit, you will most likely have low volume white noise.

 

I was afraid of that...I love the head unit, but the speakers suck..especially while on the bluetooth. The EQ helps some, but not near enough. That was the only good thing about the Ford, the stereo was great, after they replaced it the first time for faulty wiring.

 

If it were me, I'd still try and use the factory head unit. If it doesn't sound good or you get white noise, you can always do something different. Audiocontrol is what I used for a line converter, but I couldn't get rid of the white noise. There are a couple other units out there though.

 

I've played with the tone quite a bit and have come up with a what I consider tolerable. Also all the leather and plastic will really mess up the sound caused by the reflection, just think what a sound studio looks like. They are weak but after my 60 years I don't need loud anymore my hearing is messed up enough from loud music.

 

I know mine is older but I have the JBL system in my 05 and it's terrible. Nothing is blown, just lacks any balls is the best way I can explain it.

 

I don't ever buy premium stereo in my vehicles anymore. None are that great and I know I'll end up ripping it all out.

 

I guess the thing I'm super bummed about is running down the road with the windows down and wanting to play some Linkin Park, you can't hear $hit! I went by a very reputable place here and they said they can make the mids and highs work, add an amp and processor and it will be loads better. I'm just not sure, but I hate not being able to jam, especially when the weather gets nice.

 

I don't have the JBL system in my truck and the quality is light years away from the JBL. The Sequoia has the JBL and I guess when you compare it to what my Tundra had it was just awesome. I replaced the small factory amp under the passenger seat with an aftermarket unit. Cost me $270 and the factory speakers so far are handling it well. I have the amp running at about 40%, and it sounds great.
