Had to pull out most of my console and dash to install a new radio. Had to pull out cup holders, center console trim, shifter cover, cig lighters, A/C controls to get to the radio.
When I pulled the center console trim I found a nest made from paper napkins in the area next to the console. I immediately vacuumed it out before taking a picture. I put the green rag where the nest was at in case anyone else wants to check their truck. Guess it is time to put out more mice poison around where I park. Although the nest looked like it had been there a while. Might have been from the first owner who lived on a farm.
I had pulled the cup holders before. But the console piece from the console armrest/cover to the dash blocks the view of this area. Luckily all of the wires look good. No chew marks on anything.
Going to clean everything like new before I put it all back together. Already washed all of the console parts in the sink and cleaned off the 11 years of dirt.

@Slim Gym cover up the access points they come in from the air cabin vent intake. Under the cowl. How's the cabin air filter?

Cabin air was dirty when I bought the truck I replaced it. I have replaced it several times and no nests have ever been there.
Console nest might have been from the previous owner. It was very old and no signs of babies or recent debris.

I have been thinking of this. Looks like a lot of work to remove everything to get to the air holes in the firewall. How bad was it to remove all the stuff to get to these holes?

It's not too bad. I've disassembled it a few times. Just getting the wiper splines lined up took the longest.

Cool. I have been wanting to remove the plastic piece that has faded and treat it with a new black trim refresher product that I bought. Supposed to reblack the trim and last a long time.

Might put some painter's tape on windshield at top edge of wiper blade before I remove them to make it easier to reinstall in the right spot.

But I will feel a lot better knowing that the screens are stopping rodents from entering the truck.

There's a rodent thread somewhere. My highlander last year had a chipmunk family under the cowl. Before blocking I would turn recirc on to block vent but once open it all goes to the filter. Big PIA!
