2011 Toyota Tundra Antenna Replacement Question

My reception is bad on a new to me purchase away from town. I was advised to get a new antenna. Antenna I have now is a short stubby one. Do I just need to replace the antenna or should I also replace the base? I think I am capable of replacing the antenna but not sure if I am able to replace the base. Will changing the base to help with reception? Any help really appreciated!

 

I tried at least 3 different "short subby" antennas on mine. Reception was less than great on all. Bit the bullet and went back to the original mast and reception is excellent.
Just replace the antenna.

Tried the stubbys, poor reception. Back to the original unless someone can show me a stubby that performs as well and, is not cost prohibitive.
