1st Gen. Lunch Table - General Discussion

I was working on that a while back, Toyota made a couple of different inserts for that pocket. I can dig up what I found out if you need it. My intent was similar: Install USB outlets for charging. I have one of the blanks I ordered. Sadly, I think the part may be discontinued between when I bought it pre-pandemic and now.

The numerical is the default on a lot of Haltech products. Blank is what people will reset to on a lot of devices if the device supports it. If it doesn't support blank passwords, a lot of people I've encountered will use 'password'.

There's a long story behind this, actually, Toyota hasn't been silent on their thoughts behind going full-EV. There's a reason they lobby so hard on hybrid over EV.

 

The other aspects of the infotainment was admittedly pretty good. Definitely still functional and intuitive. I'd totally agree with you that it was one of the best if phone connection wasn't through voice commands. If there was just a button or menu for phone pairing, it would've been a fantastic system. But since pairing a phone was a multi-step, multiple minute process, every time you got in the car, it really left a bad taste for everything else. The computer also had a really hard time understanding our admittedly very Wisconsinite accents, which only made the inconvenience more annoying.

 

I tried password, administrator, crownvic, 2011crownvic, and a few others. I'll give those a shot.

 

My work truck makes me switch to bluetooth every single time I get in. It's the most annoying thing I've seen. My gf's sync is trash though. I'll agree on that.

 

Sync isn't better in 2024.

 

Guess i'm lucky. Mine will automatically play both sides of a cassette.

 

These gears were adjusted too high and too tight according to the shop that is rebuilding my diffs. So much money for something that had to be rebuild 2.5 years later. I'm fucking pissed at the shop that did the work, especially because they are a Toyota off road shop and came highly recommended. Part of me wishes I took it back to them and tried to get it warranteed, but part of me is glad I didn't. I'd be homicidal if they fucked em up again.

 

You mentioned your CD player didn't work. You're welcome to my OEM CD changer tape deck radio. It's just taking up space.

Yeah, they are pretty open about it. They are even dabbling in Hydrogen with the Toyota Mirai.

Nah I'm sticking with 4.56. Texas is too big for 4.88's. If I lived central, I might have considered it. But everywhere I want to go is 4+ hours away, so I don't want my MPGs to drop any more. I figure there's a slight possibility that with the 4.56's, my MPGs could go up a little with 35's over my current 33.5's. I'd be gaining 8lbs per wheel/tire though.

But highly doubtful 4.56's will get better mpg than 4.88's on 35's.

Don't feel bad, it's not just you. I don't do gears either. I tried once, had to have a buddy of mine fix my mistakes. Properly setting R&P backlash is not my strong suit.

 

I'll do the ECGS preassembled stuff, but you won't catch me pulling a diff apart either. Driveline stuff is for the birds

 

The hardest ring and pinion sets to get right are those that require different thickness shims to be used. The hard part is owning enough shims to get it done properly especially when changing the gear ratio enough to require setting up a new ring gear carrier. Same applies to putting in a new locker. It's all attention to detail during trial fits. Dial indicator and stand, inch pound and foot pound torque wrenches and a caliper or micrometer along with Dykem or other machinest's marking fluid are needed. A hydraulic press is used in some instances.. Use your strongest muscle located behind your eyes and between your ears.

I give that MF credit, he didn't give up. He didn't look flustered. He just kept stabbing at it until those words he was grappling for came out. I wish my kids had that level of confidence sometimes. They'd be so embarassed after 5 seconds they'd just shutup and say, "Ah, fuck it. My brain's not working."
