Depends on if I run out of glue and colored paper
You will be part of recall v2

The only reason the hybrids weren't recalled is because they don't present the same safety issue that the others due. If your motor blows, you'll have ability to limp it to safety, whereas they are sitting ducks on a highway. The issues that got Toyota to where they are now is present across the Tundra line, but supply chain, available labor, etc. created the necessity to stagger the recalls. After the first volley of motors are replaced, and supply improves, you will most certainly in the bread line with the rest. On the plus side, at least its a new motor now instead of the poor souls that had theirs ripped apart and cobbled back together like a high schoolers mechanic project. :)

    All about the silver linings

4 year old truck, serious recall, hail damage … who is walking in the door and paying 50 grand for that? Because if you think a dealer should give you 47 that means private party it should be worth 50-55 ?

2024 Platinum trims are available in the 60s … even if you said 70 grand as a starting point and took 7 grand a year off in depreciation you are at 42k

I'm just here to say the following:

I love having no truck payment.

Guns and knives are a great investment.

    I don't like Dave Ramsey.

Boats > trucks, all day every day.

    Yes, maybe, eventually.

I've been kinda busy and soon it'll be way too cold up there. Maybe next year

2 years. Also going to cost the dealer 200-300 to fix the hail damage at most in their body shop.

Zero material costs. How much do you think they are paying their employees by hour?

Those employees don’t just cost money per hour, they create revenue. So if they are spending time fixing your dents, they aren’t creating revenue. Unless the dealer charges you that revenue to fix your dents. Also, a hood and roof with hail dents on it is thousands to repair, not a couple hundred. PDR is much more expensive than it used to be. If you want the max money and think you’re getting cheated on the hail damage, pay out of pocket to fix it. Then you’ll see the market cost of the dent repair.

If it is a cheap and easy fix - why haven’t you done it? Their employee is just as likely to ruin the paint as fix the dents because as you mentioned - he/she is probably getting paid in peanuts.

They can fix it “cheaper” because they pay wholesale for trades.

They are selling 2025s so it’s 3 years old by model year.

Stop sale. Dealer can't resell it until motor is done. Dealer can't do motor till customers are done first. year wait i would guess as motors are starting to get shipped to dealers now .

Yeah as stated its common knowledge about the recalls and total engine failures. Your thought process is "A Toyota dealer should take it back" but it is a business and their's is "Why would I buy something I can't even legally sell, it could sit for months to get fixed?" My dad always said never buy the A model of any vehicle. In this case it may be the A,B,and C. I fear more is to come on the V6s in 2024s. They say the hybrid didn't have the issue , but I am hearing now they do. Ill keep my right as rain 2011 Tundra 4.6 crewcab with 215k miles on it that I literally just spent my first repair money on. I put a new starter on (Which admittedly is pricey and a labor nightmare lol). I want to see if I can make it to a million miles. I would trust it more to drive to Florida today than a 2022-2024 Tundra V6. (Price to replace a 4.6 V8 in a Tundra is about $7500. Price to replace a new V6 and two turbos outside of warranty, about 30k. And puttin it in at the dealer is not the same as at the factory by a longshot. On average they sell over 100k tundras (Dont know how many Sequoias) a year and they recalled 102k engines for 2022 and 2023 years of v6 twin turbo. That's why I am currently looking to buy a 2021 crew cab 4x4 5.7 with low miles (AND TOW HOOKS lol). I truly wish you good luck with your situation, I hope you figure something out. Maybe you should look at a 2020-2021 when you get out from under the car/house note. They hold their value. My dealer locally just sold a 2021 Tundra 4x4 pro crewcab with 25k miles on it , listed at 59k.

You really are better off just waiting til engine replacements are done and THEN private party it. People who love Toyotas, understand benefit of new motor that has presumably been made free of future issues and looking for a reason to move into the new generation will definitely be your target market. Nice thing about the fellers driving the older gen, I'd imagine many of them know how to work on dents or don't mind them, so you'll win out there too. Patience + Time will win this out for you. The WRX will still be there, and you'll have more money to put down, as your truck should presumably been nearly paid off by this point.

I asked early and didn't get a reply on it. Or maybe I missed it.

How much are you expecting the dealer to give you, based on age, hail, recall?

Sounds like OP dealer REALLY doesn't want your trade. I have a 22 SR5 with 30k. Dealer offered me $39k last week. I'm not accepting an $18k loss. I only inquired because they had several on the lot for 5 & 7000 off.

Disagree. Look at the total cost of the loan vs payment. We bought a 2024 1794 edition at 2% interest on a 4yr loan. The cost of the loan over that period was $6k cheaper than a 5 year at the higher interest rate Toyota was offering. Affording the monthly payment was not a problem for us. Now lets say you paid cash for the full amount. You could make far more investing that cash while making payments on a loan at 2% APR. So honestly its situationally dependent. You may be right in some situations, but everyone's situation is not the same.

    More than 38,000. KBB said $47,000-$49,000. I expected 46-47.

Just to bring it all home. I will likely fix the hail damage. There are only two or three spots on the hood so I don't even think about it very often because out of sight out of mind (the rest are on one side of the roof but there aren't really that many because the roof is a giant piece of glass). KBB won't even give me a quote. I plugged in the VIN and it just said "Based on the style shown above, this vehicle isn't eligible for an Instant Cash Offer". Wasn't planning on getting rid of the truck for 6-8 more months originally but had a couple of things come up and thought it was worth a look to see what I could get especially since annual property taxes are due in October.

Will take it to a Toyota dealer for kicks and see what they offer. If similar price, I will definitely hold on to it as originally planned.

2% over 48 months from a lender that wasn't the dealer is pretty dang good. Or are you saying that was the Toyota rate at 4 years vs 5 years?

Made a $43K trade on my 38K miles 22 TRD OR w/ advanced tech and off-road packages back in August. It was the 3rd Toyota I checked with and happened to have the TRD Pro I wanted. The others were around 37K. It helped I was buying a more expensive truck and I showed them a 43K trade offer from a local chevy dealer that really wanted to offload an older ZR2.Personally I've got low trust in a dealer installed engine so I got out. I'm thinking the market environment for engine swapped trucks will be poor.
