Looking at a truck to purchase double cab TRD sport 4x4 and it has a project M 4 wheel camper and build out. I was shocked to see the cargo capacity is 1320lbs
The FWCamper is like 400-450 and the build has to be 400-500lbs
Not including two 30L tanks that’s 132 lbs
It’s hard to believe that 320 for passengers etc.

Surprised to see a Double cab with only 1320lbs of payload as well. High option crew cab models end up south of 1200lbs though.....

    Thanks for the information!

sadly the project M is 440 lbs dry of coarse.
And as you said the weight is being placed onto the bed sides. Verse a side in camper

You might be fine if you go easy on the truck as it seems the guys having trouble are the ones running hard off-road and flexing the frame of the truck. Or consider a CrewMax 5.5’ bed because it doesn’t appear to have the same issues.

I can understand the logic behind the reason these issues are happening. Because I saw recently TFL trucks had mentioned that the ranger? Had a service bulletin that the bed required strengthening brackets if you added over 400lbs to the bed sides.
So clearly manufacturers are removing metal to make things lighter and better gas mileage etc etc.

To further make matters worse we are adding 4-5 feet of top weight bolted to the bed sides. Creating a leaver on this already weight reduced bed structure.
Not even factoring in people adding storage boxes, kayaks to the roofs.

I’m just really pissed off because I’m in canada and Toyota Canada sucks. I tried to obtain a reprint of the window sticker and Toyota Canada is like that’s impossible. To which I’m like Toyota American can some how figure it out. Including the two other 3rd party companies. Toyota Canada customer service is clueless they are like the dealership doesn’t keep the paper. As they can’t seem to grasp that the VIN number has all the info.

That should be readily accessible info. For crying out loud, carfax has copies on most newer rigs. I'd ask a different dealership or go to Toyota corporate.

Question: What info on the window sticker are you trying to find?

sorry Godzilla I was trying to get a reprint of the window sticker with all the packages and info. Then I was trying to figure out the curb weight vs GVWR.

sadly I called three dealerships and completely useless

called Toyota Canada even more useless then dealership. They told me to email corporate Toyota Canada and the response I got was almost as worse just no clue.

Ah, if you google "toyota features by vin" there should be an official toyota result that will list the packages it had from the factory. GVWR will be on the sticker in your door jamb, and curb weight on any paper or brochure is garbage. You need to weigh your truck to find the actual curb weight.

I totally agree that the truck needs to be scaled for the real curb weight. My unfortunate circumstances is that it’s outfitted with a project M FWC and build out inside.

Guess the only thing I can do is scale it now and see what the weight is verse GVWR. To see if it’s over or even has enough room for driver passenger. And this is dry weight and unloaded with gear supplies.

OOOH, I misunderstood the first post. I thought you were saying you were shopping a truck and then getting the camper thing.

Used with it already on it, I would bet money that it's overweight. Tons of people aren't even aware of payload, and then about half that are aware of it don't care and overload anyway. Then they do the surprised Pikachu when something breaks.

but the same web page I signed up to with add my car.
but then when I try to add my car says

Invalid VIN For Brand Please check and re-enter your VIN.

    Surprise surprise
The dry weight of the truck is 6870 lbs
Leaving me with 230 lbs for driver , passengers, supplies, tools, receiver hitch

I’m trying to find the GCVWR the combines weight for truck and trailer. As my thinking is remove enough weight from the truck to allow two people and a receiver and hitch weight for a trailer

Pretty sure it's 16000#. It will be difficult to achieve that due to payload recommendations. Your trailer will need a tongue weight of 10% of the trailers overall weight. So whatever payload you have available, multiply by 10 and that's the MAX the trailer could weigh if properly distributed. Now, few would recommend maxxing everything out.

Unfortunately its hard to believe the difficulty to get this information from Toyota. As I previously mentioned I contacted Toyota Canada and frustrating doesn’t describe the situation.
They did send me owners manual and I went over every page and nothing listed. Which I can understand because the manuals are generic for every trim. This is a specific number for this specific trim model.

I have even called my local government scale station. And he was shocked as well to hear that I could not find this combined load number.

One great resource that I did come across was KYD YouTube channel. Please forgive the ford info
I have attached the ford combined weight chart with trailer max.

    https://www.ford.ca/cmslibs/content/dam/brand_ford/en_ca/brand/owners/guides-and-manuals/pdf/57063_PK8407_Ford_2023_RV-TTGuide_Ev8_NS_rev_EN.pdf

Again, I think it’s 16000# across the board for Tundra

You can put it in the chat with staff section to ask mods. Just randomly asking if admins are on is a complete gamble as to whether or not they see it.

    Thanks for sharing
I just browsed those threads and I just see people posting photos. Unfortunately I don’t see any numbers of what these things weigh. As crunching numbers to tow the max number 9900lbs I would have to further reduce the cargo capacity to 1000lbs in the truck. Which in that 1000 I would have to include tongue weight, driver, passengers, fuel, etc.

Or the true towing capacity should be 13680lbs going by GCVWR
