I went on the Griots site. Just so you guys know, the G9 Random Orbital Polisher is on sale for $120. I was looking for a used one on various sites. None are that cheap and it’s brand new.

    A few questions:

    1) Is the G9 a good choice? I am not a professional. Just for detailing my own cars. They offer different pads for it. A red one for polishing. And an orange when more paint correction is needed.

    2) My Tundra and Corolla have rain spot staining (see picture). I was thinking about the orange pad for them.

    3) My Chevy was painted last year. I was thinking the red pad for that application.

    Any hints or advice welcome.

Forgot to upload the pic. BTW, I washed the car, claybar and even hand waxed. The water stains are proving to be resilient

The G9 is generally considered the best DA you can get without stepping up to the higher end models like Rupes. It’s an outstanding machine. I highly recommend it.
The red pads aren’t going to do any correction to speak of. They’re more for applying wax and sealant.
For light polishing you’ll want the black ones. For a bit more correction you’ll use orange, then likely need to follow up with black.

For water spots, I’ve honestly had the best luck with white vinegar. Putting it on a towel and using elbow grease will go a long way. If that doesn’t do the trick then a light polish should take care of them.
I’ve actually soaked a red pad in vinegar and gone to town on a vehicle. It worked amazingly.

Purchased the G9 with Red and Orange pads.

I usually use the Zaino Z-AIO All-in-One. Zaino doesn't get much love here.

The Griots rep recommended the Griots Ceramic All-in-One which like the Zaino Z-AIO All-in-One is a cleaner wax.
I'll do one car in Zaino the Tundra in Griots.

Please allow me to follow up on this. The tech rep recommended the Ceramic All-in-One Wax as it had some abrasives to remove swirl marks, fine scratches and hopefully the rain drop stain. Assuming I can’t get a black pad locally, and since the wax has abrasive qualities, do I use the orange or red pad??

Not seeing the sale price today. I'll keep an eye out down the road.

It was for the anniversary of the G9. I think the sale ended.

    Follow up

The G9 arrived. I read War Machine comments and ordered Black pads that have not arrived yet.

I also ordered the 10895 Ceramic All-in-One. A cleaner wax that Griots mentioned would last one year.

Having never used the G9, I did the passenger side on my Black Tundra with the red pad. There was some correction, but not great. I know the red pad is not used for correction, but I didn’t want my inexperience to leave swirl marks all over the truck. On the driver’s side I switched to the orange pad. The correction was much more noticeable. Now to see if the 10895 Ceramic All-in-One last one year. I will most likely layer it with some Griots Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax spray.

BTW: I have to add, when I was done, I looked at the truck one hour later and noticed a bird had pooped on it. :annoyed:

I wouldn’t worry too much about swirling the paint with the G9 unless you’re using a very harsh pad. You have to damned near be trying to mess your paint up with a DA. I’ve never had it happen, and most of the polishing I’ve done is on dark paint. DA polishers are by design very safe and easy to use for us non-professionals.
