I read a few threads here that say the Tundra gets equal MPG when in Tow/Haul mode. I track and measure just about everything. I will be using the Tow/Haul mode on my next trip to judge for myself but I want any input from anyone else who tracks and measures like I do. I'm also curious if any damage could have been done by not using the Tow/Haul mode to tow my travel trailer (camper) weighing in at roughly 5000 lbs. Thanks in advance.

From what ive read, the tow haul mode is basically a "sport mode" that increases throttle sensitivity, there isnt rlly anything that would hurt/damage your truck, its mainly electronics in shift timing, and throttle response, that makes the truck feel less sluggish with the extra weight while towing.

in terms of MPG, i feel like you wud get less MPG from tow haul mode, because the truck does ride the revs more, downshifts more on inclines, and uses engine braking when going down steep hills. So i would assume that it would affect the MPGs in a negative way. I do run on 35s with a 3 inch lift, so my MPGs are affected already.

I would recommend using "sequential mode" while driving so you can upshift yourself if you feel that the truck is riding the revs too much, just lessen the throttle when shifting up to get the truck to upshift, its not manual mode, so it wont shift up immediately. truck obviously will downshift by itself when slowing down just like normal drive, right around 900-1000 rpm it will downshift. It doesnt hurt to just use Tow haul by itself without the sequential mode. Sequential mode is a tool that can be used in situation where the truck is riding the revs for a prolonged period of time such as on a long incline, where you can try to upshift and lessen the stress on the engine and fuel consumption, and to use the low end torque.

    Hope this helps :)
