Im about to change the oil seal and then do timing belt. Cams are set to T. Here is where crank cog (not sure of official part name) is sitting..kind of at 11 oclock. As you see I marked it with a sharpie. So after I put cam sprockets back on (changing those seals, too) I will set them to TDC, right, not the T? If so, where do I line up the crank cog because its currently marked with the cams at T.

Just wanting to check in with everyone before I do something stupid. I looked in the stickys and didnt see anything that pertained to this. Well..I went through alot of them..not all

    THANKS

Don't use sharpie marks unless you are absolutely certain. The heads and crankcase are already marked and the harmonic balancer confirms it too. I have a pdf that describes it. I'll see if I still have it...

Using the T marks and not the TDC will ensure cam lobes are unloaded and less likely to rotate.

    I

^ THIS is what I was looking for. It is much more straight forward than the Toyota procedure. The "T"s made this project so much more confusing to me so I just pulled the plugs out so the cams didn't kick on me.

Custom bug spat pattern hood, grill & bumper. Dead Live Oak leaf collection under hood, cowl and lower fenders. Beach sand custom floor covering.
Compression will leak off after a few minutes. It's the ramp of the cam lobe and a valve being partially open/closed which causes the rotation of the cams once the belt has been removed.

i get it. because the lineup of my TDC looks really good, the ATDC (T)..not near as precise.
